About the role
Group Tax is a specialist function within Group Finance & Business Services. It is part of BT’s Tax, Treasury, Insurance & Pensions function. We own BT’s relationship with tax authorities and external stakeholder/providers. We strive to ensure that our specialist issues are widely understood by Customer Facing Units (CFU) and other Corporate Units (CU) by being personal, simple and brilliant. And working together we ensure that BT meets its compliance obligations globally and control BT’s financial risks. What you’ll be doing
- Manage the monthly process to collate data from across the business into BT’s Indirect tax Reporting Tools.
- Managing the preparation, consolidation and the timely filing of BT’s UK Indirect tax returns each quarter.
- Managing the VAT governance framework, including SAO certification and business partnering.
- Build relationships internally providing VAT advice, training and support as required to facilitate accurate tax coding of transactions and an accurate VAT return compliant with MTD requirements.
- Continuously improve VAT process and governance framework challenging the existing ways of doing things, utilising BT’s VAT Reporting Tool; Robotic Process Automation and introducing new technology.
- Managing VAT tax risks, including tax audits.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Strong knowledge of UK VAT legislation and indirect tax, with the ability to manage and prioritise complex VAT issues while engaging effectively with senior stakeholders.
- Experience driving tax process and control improvements, leveraging best practice, technology and automation to enhance compliance and efficiency.
- Tax-qualified, HMRC-trained or part/full qualified accountant, with knowledge of UK VAT and experience using accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, Sage or Microsoft Dynamics AX.

- Experience of partnering with non-tax teams
- Contributed to projects as a subject matter expert
- Has contributed to the delivery of process, systems or tool changes.
- Proven experience of using data analytics to make better decisions.
