As a Trainee Radio & Rigging engineer in our Networks Field teams, you will enter the business at the ground level. Your traineeship will have you completing a set pathway of internal/external training (dependent on the specific role). You’ll be taught how to work on our network, with a mixture of on the job and classroom training, over a period of 24 months. At the end of this period, you will be assessed, and on successful completion of your assessment will assimilate as a Radio & Rigging Engineer within Networks Field Engineering.

About the role: As part of the role you may be required to contribute to out of hours callout by supporting voluntary lists and, if required, Formal On Call Frameworks (with a minimum 1 in 4 attendance) to support service as needed by the business. 

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Prioritise H&S – To have regard for health and safety, his/her job license and skills as agreed with line manager.  Delivers work with full regard of H&S aspects. Carries out on-site risk assessments giving careful consideration to any hazards before starting work and as the work progresses. Inform manager and record near misses/incidents.  Is comfortable challenging and asking others to display their ID passes when on BT premises. Complies with all ISO Audit Requirements, including 14001 and 45001. Radio & Rigging Expertise – Complexity level of work expected: 
Utilises expertise in technical rigging activities including:. 

    • Holds an extensive understanding of a variety of different systems including: Radio – 20CN/21CN/Microwave - installations, systems & maintenance , Mobile – 2/3/4/5g - installations, systems & maintenance ,WIFI systems – installations, systems & maintenance 
    • Responsible for achieving & retaining all mandatory training certification including: Tower Climbing and Rescue, Emergency First Aid At Work (At Height)
    • Lifting & lowering equipment: Design & creation of lifting/lowering plans (And associated Risk Assessments), Co-ordinating team member activities during routine/planned works.  
    • Supervisory/Clerk of Works responsibility for contractor/3rd party activity within our estate

  • Must be able to fulfil the physical requirements of the role i.e. able to bend, stretch, kneel and crouch. Also must be able to climb, work at floor and ceiling level inside buildings, tower structures and road side infrastructure, lift heavy drums/cables and recognise coloured wiring. 

 Mandatory: Able to pass a working at height medical. Maintain a level of physical fitness to conduct the role.
