Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you will be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

About the role

The Technical Delivery Principal leads the delivery and customer relationships for the end-to-end technical solutions in the GSS Engineering space, ensuring that customer requirements are successfully and effectively delivered by a first-class technical professional services team and NPS, mission impact and customer intimacy are maintained to the highest level. 

This job role can be based in London, Ipswich, Cheltenham or Manchester, Monday-Friday 37.5 hours per week. You will need to be eligible to obtain DV Security Clearance before starting this role. You will need to have lived in the UK for 10+ years to be eligible.

What you’ll be doing

  • Operates as an SME in leading full cycle delivery of commercial outcomes for technology developments and solutions.
  • Leads the identification of opportunities to resolve risks and issues relating to delivery and any impacts on related components or teams.
  • Drives partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues, update on progress and achieve benefits.
  • Partners with multiple complex medium sized technical deliveries or a single large technical delivery.
  • Leads the oversight on all actions and activities, from scope to delivery, to ensure adherence to technical roadmap and time and budget constraints.
  • Drives the implementation of methods to improve team, process and service performance and suggest and implement changes to how the team operates.
  • Leads contributions to the development of innovative approaches and tools aimed at furthering GSS’ capabilities.
  • Leads the resolution of technical delivery problems, identifying what needs to happen and ensuring all parties involved are engaged in resolutions.
  • Builds relationships with diverse stakeholders to deliver medium-sized, technical projects within a specific domain which enable benefits for customers across a portfolio of projects.
  • Mentors, coaches, and manages a team to develop current and future team capabilities and ensure high performance. 

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Project/Programme Management - Handles a project or portfolio of projects as they progress through the typical stages of the project lifecycle including initiation, planning, execution and closure.
  • Agile Methodologies - Manages projects by dividing tasks into short phases of work (known as sprints) and frequently reassess and adapt plans.
  • Program Increment Planning - Facilitates a collaborative focused planning process among teams, stakeholders and product owners to review program backlog and align on a committed roadmap.
  • Requirements Management - Documents, analyses, traces, prioritises and agrees on requirements and then controls change and communicating to relevant stakeholders.
  • Requirements Gathering - Determines user expectations for a new or modified product.
  • Service Level Agreement Management - Oversees the agreement between the service provider and a customer that identifies both the services required and the expected level of service in a document called the SLA (Service-level agreement).
  • Stakeholder Management - Organises, monitors and improves relationships with stakeholders.
  • Risk Management - Identifies, evaluates and manages risks by developing and implementing strategies, frameworks, policies, procedures and practices.
  • Lean Portfolio Management - Applies a management and work organisation method aimed at improving performance.
  • KPI Metric Monitoring - Monitors performance indicators that demonstrate how effectively a company is achieving key business objectives.
  • Negotiation - Reaches compromise or agreement while avoiding argument and dispute.
  • Presenting/Demonstrating - Describes a product or service to the prospect and giving the customer an opportunity to verify facts and understand how it works.
  • Deep understanding of the role of technology provider into the community (customer base)
  • Maintains DV+ clearance
  • Extensive experience leading end to end software/platforms/systems engineering teams
  • Leading innovative and technically complex programme of work in a professional services environment where research and development is at the core of the projects. 

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Member of a professional body desirable e.g. BCS / IET / qualified CEng. 
  • Certifications in common agile frameworks, for example CSM, Certified Scrum Master.
