About the role
Our Infrastructure Planners are experts who utilise their Structural qualifications and knowledge to support BT’s M&E programmes.
You will be the gateway for customer requests and ensure we have the space, infrastructure within our exchanges to meet ours and our customer’s needs.
You will be supporting all M&E delivery programmes, completing a range of activities- space capacity management, compiling SOR’s (Statement of Requirements), cable routing and segregation, designing equipment layouts, holding site meetings, matrix management of engineering teams and contractors, issuing Job Packs, supporting project delivery, asset registration and finance management.
- Prioritise H&S – To have regard for health and safety, his/her job license, and skills as agreed with line manager. Delivers work with full regard of H&S aspects. Carries out on-site risk assessments giving careful consideration to any hazards before starting work and as the work progresses. Inform manager and record near misses/incidents. Is comfortable challenging and asking others to display their ID passes when on BT premises. Complies with all ISO Audit Requirements, including 14001 and 45001.

What you will be doing
- Execute Work with Autonomy – Execute all required work (allocated and self-identified), considering H&S, despite the challenges and environment. Supporting a team of engineers / planners to prioritises work as required, entering accurate codes and quality notes on appropriate systems (e.g. SIM, SNAP, and other inventory systems), that are meaningful, and which can be used onward by colleagues and customers.
- Planning Expertise – Utilise extensive expertise in planning, surveying, and clerk of works activities, occasionally supervising and leading a small team during operations and activities. In addition to this the individual will demonstrate an extensive understanding of a variety of systems alongside H&S considerations when planning. Skill use will be dependent on patch requirements. Developing site plans and floor layouts to ensure accuracy for future works.
- Contractor Support – Support and challenge contractors to ensure that BT is receiving value for money in all activities.
- Construction Knowledge – Provide direction and support to the wider planning community in regard to how the design of equipment layouts affect the building structure and infrastructure.
- Performance and Development – Drives own performance ensuring they are effectively contributing to team measures, taking ownership of these measures for given area. Required to ensure that mandatory compliance, regulatory, data and informational requirements are maintained and recorded. Works in partnership with line manager to drive personal upskilling and development to need training needs and aspiration. Additionally completes any training requirements as set out by the business needs in the work area (including upskilling to Power) and effectively coaches and supports team members as required.
What you'll need to succeed
Essential
- Structural Knowledge: display an understanding of how buildings are constructed, building regulations and Health And Safety requirements.
- Self-Starting: The ability to work autonomously without supervision to proactively achieve the desired outcomes, often using their own initiative to drive the actions required from both themselves and wider team.
- Team Leadership: Hold the ability to drive and lead small teams during technical activities.

- ICT Literacy: Confident user of MS Office suite, especially MS Word, Excel, and Outlook (e-mail). Practical knowledge of AutoCAD

- Stakeholder Management: Able to partner with and support internal and external customers, managing their needs and expectations.
