About the role

Management of the UK’s critical national infrastructure Central Government sector contracts through their strategic lifecycle, as well as the team who oversee these contracts. The role has 7 direct reports and an overall organisation of 14 people. 

 

Responsible for: 

 

  • Financial metrics (revenue, EBITDA and cash flow)
  • Customer satisfaction (NPS score)
  • Driving incremental business through contractual change control
  • Adherence to governance requirements of Major Contract Management and any specific sector or contractual governance
  • Supporting the sector’s growth and acquisition strategy, through the Winning New Business process 

What you’ll be doing

Accountable for the financial performance and risk position of the Sector 

  • Owns all aspects of financial performance within the sector, including adherence to agreed targets (MTP) and strong cash flow performance
  • Owns all aspects of the financial performance process within the sector, including monthly forecasting and annual budget setting
  • Monitors and drives ongoing commercial viability of the contract
  • Drives resource optimisation across all internal functions supporting the contracts
  • Drives cost transformation and margin optimisation across all contracts
  • Ensures effective management of all contractual obligations and risks across the sector, including terms and service levels, ensuring these are well understood and captured within the agreed governance frameworks
  • Ensures effective management of all 3rd party suppliers and partners

 

Change Control, Growth and Acquisition Strategy 

  • Builds strong relationships with senior customer stakeholders at C suite level; main interface and lead for the customer for escalations on all contractual / commercial topics
  • Winning New Business Agree-er within DOA
  • Drives effective and profitable Change Control across the sector
  • Identifies contractual and commercial opportunities, using the contracts as platforms for growth
  • Champions the maximisation of commercial opportunities and leads dispute resolution escalations
  • Champions collaborative working

 

Operational Accountabilities  

  • Builds strong relationships with the Sales, Finance and Service to Director level, to ensure an optimised financial and risk position
  • Provides strategic and commercial guidance to all stakeholders across virtual teams inc. BLT
  • Coaches teams on all aspects of contract and commercial performance, working to build a culture of high-performance and collaboration
  • Contributes to the wider Contract Management organisational planning and strategy, as part of the Senior Management team for the function
  • Accountable for sector contract governance (CGRs), risk management / mitigation & obligations, customer support, debt and financial performance

  • Expert in commercial and contract management methodologies and industry best practice, including relational and outcome-based contracting
  • Expert in leadership and coaching skills
  • Expert in strategic planning and transformation
  • Expert in obligations, risk and issue management
  • Expert ability to identify & solve business and customer problems
  • Expert stakeholder management skills with customers and colleagues

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Strong ability to assess and agree new business opportunities for commercial viability
  • Strong knowledge of governance & compliance methodology
  • Strong ability to work across organisational boundaries
  • Strong understanding of UK public sector procurement processes, including the UK Procurement Act 2023
