As a Senior Java Full-Stack Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, developing and evolving the platforms, APIs and services that power our digital channels. Working within a high-performing agile engineering team, you'll develop scalable, secure and resilient solutions using modern engineering practices and cloud-native technologies.

While the role includes some full-stack development, the primary focus is backend engineering, building APIs and microservices that support critical customer and payments journeys.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale platforms, influence technical direction and contribute to engineering excellence across BT.

This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham (Snowhill), with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from Home. 

What you’ll be doing

• Design, develop and maintain scalable microservices using Java 17 and Spring Boot.
• Design, build and support RESTful APIs.
• Develop clean, efficient and maintainable code aligned to engineering best practice.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and DevOps ways of working.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, designers and engineers to deliver business outcomes.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and support production services.
• Contribute to cloud-native application development and modern engineering practices.
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions across the team.
• Contribute to front-end development activities using React where required.

Essential Skills / Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Java 17, Spring Boot and Microservices architecture.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA) with excellent coding and problem-solving skills

Desirable Skills / Experience

• React
• TypeScript, HTML5 and CSS3
• AWS or other public cloud platforms
• GraphQL
• Docker and Kubernetes
• Event-driven architectures and Kafka
• CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
• Payments, FinTech or Financial Services experience
• Observability tools such as Dynatrace, Grafana or CloudWatch
