About the role
The Secure Networking Specialist will play a key role in helping BT grow its strategic Secure Networking portfolio in Japan by bringing together traditional networking, SD-WAN overlay and cloud-delivered security capabilities.
The role is designed for a commercially minded specialist who can understand customer business challenges, shape outcome-led solutions and position BT as a trusted partner across connectivity, secure access and managed services.
The ideal candidate should have the ability to credibly engage in network transformation led conversations, especially where SD-WAN, SSE and SASE are converging.
Broader security knowledge is plus, particularly where it helps customers connect secure networking decisions to resilience, risk reduction and operational simplification.
What you’ll be doing
- Qualify and sell BT’s Secure Networking portfolio across Japan-based and regional customer opportunities, including Internet, MPLS, cloud connectivity, and SASE-aligned services.
- Act as the subject matter specialist for secure network transformation opportunities, helping account teams position the right mix of underlay connectivity, overlay intelligence and embedded security controls.
- Shape solution strategies that combine BT’s global network capability and partner ecosystem into practical, commercially viable customer propositions.
- Position single-vendor and hybrid-vendor SD-WAN, SSE and SASE approaches appropriately, helping customers understand the trade-offs across cost, complexity, integration, service model and operational ownership.
Portfolio scope
- Networking underlay: Globa Fabric, Internet, MPLS, Ethernet, cloud connectivity.
- SD-WAN overlay: Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto/Prisma, Meraki and other vendor-led or hybrid SD-WAN propositions.
- Network security and SSE/SASE: managed firewall, secure internet breakout, secure web gateway, cloud access security broker, zero trust network access and firewall-as-a-service.
- Optional - Cybersecurity awareness: threat landscape, vulnerability management, endpoint/security ecosystem awareness and how these relate to secure connectivity decisions.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Secure networking expertise: Solid understanding of enterprise connectivity, routing concepts, hybrid WAN, internet breakout, cloud access and secure network architecture.
- SD-WAN and SASE knowledge: Ability to explain how SD-WAN, SSE and SASE work together, including the strengths and limitations of single-vendor and multi-vendor models.
- Customer-led solution selling: Strong ability to translate technical capabilities into customer outcomes such as resilience, user experience, cloud readiness, risk reduction and operational simplicity.
- Commercial acumen: Ability to qualify opportunities, shape deal strategy, understand margin drivers and balance customer value with BT commercial objectives.
- Partner management: Ability to work productively with technology vendors, local suppliers and internal delivery teams to build credible, deliverable solutions.
- Consultative communication: Confidence leading customer conversations, workshops, executive briefings and internal deal reviews in a clear and structured way.
- Market awareness: Understanding of enterprise networking and cloud transformation trends, preferably with Japan or wider APAC market exposure.
- Growth mindset: Willingness to continuously develop across both networking and security domains, recognising that secure networking requires a blended but realistic skillset.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Experience in enterprise networking, carrier services, managed services, systems integration or technology consulting.
- Experience supporting multinational customers, complex RFPs, customer workshops or solution design discussions.
- Hands-on or commercial exposure to SD-WAN and SASE solutions
- Knowledge of Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Zscaler, Check Point, HPE Aruba or comparable networking/security vendors.
- Understanding of Japanese enterprise customers and the ability to operate effectively in a regional or global sales environment.
- Japanese and English language capability suitable for customer and internal stakeholder engagement.
