This is an Onsite role based in Oswestry and may involve some travel to some BT sites.
About the role
In Network Operations we monitor and manage BT’s UK and global networks and services, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This role includes working on Networks which require security clearance. Therefore, it is mandatory that you must be able to obtain SC clearance if you don’t already have it.
Our job is to support and deliver Optical and IP based networks and services in secure and regulated environments.
To ensure identify and deal with any problems before they impact service where possible. Where this is not possible, to provide technical expertise, rapid decision-making, and high-pressure communication to minimize service disruption.
To collaborate closely with other teams such as field engineers, BT’s customer facing units as well as other Network Services teams (such as design, Project management, technical services, etc.), key external suppliers and equipment providers to evolve and deliver change to the network.

We are looking for 2* Network Engineer Professional to join our team in Oswestry.
What you’ll be doing
- Collaboration: Team member skills are key to ensure success of the immediate team, management of field engineering resource, collaboration with other NOC teams, support and project management teams and both internal and external customer representatives.
- Proactive Monitoring: Surveillance of network devices, servers, and traffic patterns to identify abnormalities, using NMS system products such as Nokia WS-NOC and Entuity
- Investigation, diagnosis and resolution of incidents and technical faults- either via self-diagnosis or reported via agreed ticketing systems and ensure timely fix and restoration.
- Incident Management: Acting as the primary responder during network hardware and Optical fibre failures, managing troubleshooting, conducting root cause analysis, and leading incident response and ongoing incident management.
- Instigate remote fix – where possible, otherwise utilise Field Resources to undertake equipment restoration at nodal locations. Keep Customer advised of impact and progress. Keep regular logs on team database for handover purposes and to record performance information.
- Complete proactive, corrective and routine maintenance and conducting other audits to optimise the network.
- Deliver installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of new hardware and service solutions
- Providing notification to customer of any PEWs instigated by other parties (for example Openreach cable) Notification will require preparation of full-service impact statement.
- Deployment of software/firmware upgrade to network elements and nodes.
- Change and trouble ticket Management: Creation of and management of network change and trouble tickets via Remedy systems. Will be responsible for raising and management of formal change and incident records, including when required PCIR and PIR.
- Circuit provision and build – requirement to build, modify and remove circuits of various bandwidth via OMS, WS-NOC and Micro-OTN systems.
- Technical Documentation: Documenting network incidents, maintaining accurate records, and creating reports on network performance and uptime.
- Spares management and logistics – in-life management of dedicated project hardware spares, spares obsolescence management and logistics
- Security & Compliance: Monitoring of security logs, align with and enforcement of security policies, and required regulatory OFCOM compliance often collaborating with SOC teams.
- Manage the escalation process of complex faults. Escalation and continued problem management to 3rd line support teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of network engineering processes and ways of working
Essential Skills / Experience
- Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC) – you must either already hold clearance or undergo UK government vetting and successfully attain security clearance
- Be able to work full time from the Oswestry (Shropshire) site – there is no home or remote working
- Strong collaboration skills - Proven track record of working strongly within a team, collaborating with colleagues to focus on the customer.
- Attention to detail – Accuracy is paramount.
- Effective communication skills – Be able effectively communicate with customers, colleagues, and senior stakeholders in a range of different scenarios through both verbal and written techniques.
- Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Technically minded - An appetite and proven history of self-learning for the future in a technical environment.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Technical understanding/experience of Transmission Networks Operations (SDH /DWDM) is preferable

- Full UK driving licence
