This role is based out of our New Bailey, Manchester office. We have a hybrid working model of 3 days together and 2 days wherever.
Due to the nature of the work, you will need to be elegible for security clearance+.
About the role
The Business CFO rely on Digital, and more specifically Secure Platforms, to underpin the services that they provide to their customers.
This role will help deliver cyber security solutions for UK Government customers ensuring protection of data & systems is at the forefront design decisions.
As a Infrastructure Engineering Professional with a strong focus on Cyber Security, you will play a critical role in safeguarding secure customer networks, systems and data by designing, implementing, and managing cyber security related projects. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, development, and business stakeholders, to ensure security is the number one priority of what we deliver for our customers.
What you’ll be doing
- Supports the maintenance of IT infrastructure components, tools or locations and contributes towards ensuring the creation of designs on services (e.g., network, security, storage, compute), which are to be produced in line with design standards
- Contributes to the collaboration with application development, enterprise architecture, infrastructure and cyber security teams to assist in the implementation of effective product roadmap
- Contributes to the automation and orchestration capabilities across the environment and establishes process and procedures that promote efficiency, solving day-to-day user problems
- Provides day-to-day support to internal tools and system health, as well as infrastructure implemented for all projects and supporting the management of customer support contracts
- Contributes to the collaboration with technical architects to translate architectural designs into operations
- Supports in the implementation of ways to improve working processes within the area of infrastructure engineering responsibility, including network and infrastructure performance and health
Operational Responsibilities
- Willingness and capability to participate in an on call support rota, providing out of hours support for critical infrastructure and security services when required.
Essential Skills / Experience
- IT Infrastructure - Understanding of servers, networks, storage, and operating systems, and how they work together to deliver reliable services.
- Firewall Technologies - Ability to configure and manage firewall rules, NAT, and security zones; understand traffic flows; and troubleshoot connectivity or policy issues while maintaining security best practices.
- IT Security - Understanding of access control, patching, secure configurations, and basic security best practices to protect systems and data.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Awareness of cloud concepts such as IaaS and PaaS, and how cloud services are provisioned, secured, and managed.
- Understanding how data moves across networks, including basic routing principles, IP addressing, and network troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with languages such as Python, PowerShell, or similar, used to automate routine tasks and improve efficiency.
- Exposure to virtualisation technologies
- Experience with automation tools or CI/CD concepts
- Knowledge of monitoring tools
- Understanding of incident and change management processes
- Experience working in operational environments with incident management, escalation, and service restoration expectations is advantageous.
