About the role

The Software Engineering Manager coordinates the execution of the engineering strategy and roadmap that supports BT's commercial strategy through cross functional business partnering and the participation of a team that pursues innovation as well as engineering excellence.

What you’ll be doing

 • Own features end-to-end: from business requirements → design → development → deployment → Observe → Maintain
• Design scalable systems with LLD, component design, and integration architecture
• Build micro-frontend and microservices-based applications at scale
• Understand the complete low-level architecture and know-how of your component and a strong knowledge of the systems you're component integrated with. 
• Own the development end to end for your components (Solution Design, Frontend, Backend, Database, Cloud Native Apps, Microservices, Serverless Architecture, Caching etc)
• Implement API-first systems (REST, GraphQL orchestration, BFF pattern)
• Enhance API and Portal Performance by innovative interventions (Orchestration, LazyLoading, Caching, Http protocol, Parallel Loading, Vertical Scaling etc)
• Drive quality engineering: test automation, CI/CD, performance, and observability
• Own production stability, release management, and incident resolution
• Collaborate with product, UX (Figma), and business stakeholders
• Mentor engineers and elevate team capabilities through coaching and tech forums
• Lead technical delivery planning, sprint execution, and release ownership
• Contribute to building a strong tech roadmap, reducing tech debt
• Identify innovation opportunities leveraging AI/LLMs, automation, and modern framework
• Adopt strong engineering practices to have ~0 P1, P2 incident due to technical issues/errors 

Essential Skills / Experience

• Strong expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, React.js, Next.js, and Node.js. 
• Solid understanding of reusable, scalable frontend and backend libraries and frameworks. 
• Proven experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS (or equivalent). 
• Hands-on experience with CMS platforms such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or similar tools. 
• Strong knowledge of analytics platforms such as Adobe Analytics (or equivalent). 
• Extensive experience designing, developing, and integrating APIs using GraphQL and REST. 
• Strong foundation in cloud-native application development and deployment practices. 
• Deep understanding of modern architecture patterns, including microservices, Backend-for-Frontend (BFF), and micro-frontends. 
• Experience in application observability and monitoring using tools such as Dynatrace (or equivalent). 
• Familiarity with incident management and alerting tools such as PagerDuty, ServiceNow, or similar platforms. 
• Experience with QA automation frameworks such as Cypress, Playwright, or equivalent tools. 
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and platforms, including GitLab runners and BrowserStack (or equivalents). 
• Strong knowledge of secure coding practices, vulnerability management, and DevSecOps principles. 
• Good to have experience with in-memory data stores such as Redis (or equivalent).
