About the role

External Reporting sits within Group Finance and is responsible for producing BT’s quarterly external results releases and the Annual Report, as well as owning the key processes that underpin them.

As part of this small, high‑performing team, you’ll work closely with technical accounting, consolidation and statutory reporting colleagues, and gain regular exposure to senior stakeholders across the Group. The team has visibility over some of the most interesting and high‑profile matters in the business, and our outputs are relied upon by shareholders, investors, analysts and other external stakeholders.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing core elements of the annual and quarterly external reporting cycle, including:

    • Oversight of the quarterly reporting timetable and ensuring key milestones are met.

    • Coordinating the drafting of quarterly results releases and trading updates, working closely with senior Group and unit stakeholders to secure timely sign‑off and publication.

    • Ownership and review of year‑end and interim financial statement notes and disclosures.

  • Owning discrete processes and disclosures within Group financial publications, which may include:

    • Related party reporting.

    • Governance of exceptional and one‑off items.

    • Litigation‑related provisions and contingent liabilities.

    • Quarterly balance sheet health reviews with business units.

    • ESG and climate‑related reporting.

    • Coordination of XBRL tagging in line with ESEF requirements.

  • Partnering with external auditors on the audit of consolidated Group financial statements and internal controls.

  • Contributing to quarterly Audit Committee and Board papers, providing clear, concise insight on financial performance and reporting matters.

  • Driving continuous improvement, ensuring process documentation is robust, up‑to‑date and supports strong controls.

  • Leading the production of ancillary financial reports and pro‑forma publications as required.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).

  • Strong external reporting experience, ideally involving annual reports and financial statements within a listed environment or audit firm.

  • Ability to distil complex technical matters for different audiences — from finance analysts to senior executives and the Audit Committee.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Organisational excellence — able to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure to tight deadlines.

  • Project leadership — comfortable leading projects end‑to‑end with minimal oversight, defining scope, engaging stakeholders and driving delivery.

  • Process and controls improvement — able to identify opportunities, design solutions and document processes from scratch.

  • Analytical rigour — exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical capability.

  • Team player — positive, collaborative and enthusiastic.

  • Relationship building — strong communication skills and the ability to partner effectively across the business.

  • Experience in:
