The Environmental product stewardship specialist is responsible for helping BT to reduce the impact of its products on the environment; for making sure that BT complies with environmental product law and for making sure that BT meets the requirements for ISO14001 for the product stewardship aspect.  Although this job sits in the Consumer CFU, their responsibility stretches pan BT (including the subsidiaries).

What you’ll be doing

Responsible for :
• Driving initiatives to reduce the environmental impacts of products used by BT and supplied by BT.
• Ensuring processes are in place and compliance is achieved across the whole of BT against UK environment regulations (including, but not limited to: WEEE, RoHS, Batteries, Packaging and REACH).
• Ensuring processes are in place and systems up to date to meet the requirements of ISO14001 for the product stewardship aspect

You will:
1. Manage BTs environmental risk relating to products, through implementing and maintaining controls and processes, includes: ISIS documents, use of Q-Pulse (or risk aspect register); updates to the Product Stewardship dashboard.
2. Ensure that current and pending environmental legislation and regulatory recommendations etc. are evaluated and appropriate action taken (includes review of Q-Pulse updates within 30 days of issue by Ideagen).
3. Engage with teams across BT including product teams and BT Legal on the applicability, interpretation or implementation of any legal requirements. Make sure that Product Stewardship training is available and incorporates the latest requirements of new or revised environmental regulations.
4. Manage BT’s producer responsibility obligations required to comply with Packaging, WEEE and Battery regulations. Including selecting compliance schemes (RFPs), managing budgets and collection, storage, submission and approval of data.
5. Support BT’s Plastic packaging tax compliance obligations for submission of data to HMRC.
6. Support ISO14001 by acting as secretariat for the Product Stewardship Forum, managing targets within current area of responsibility, supporting the internal and external audit programme relating to product stewardship.
7. Support procurement to minimize the environmental risk from our suppliers.
8. Represent BT as a member of Tech UK (Health, Safety and Environment Consultative Committee). Liaise with UK Government Departments e.g. DEFRA and BIS, and enforcement agencies as appropriate.
9. Provide input for the Product Stewardship section of BT’s Purposeful Business (Sustainability) Annual Report.
 

Skills Required

Required Skills
• A good knowledge of ISO14001 Environmental management system.
• Knowledge of environmental product legislation.
• Excellent stakeholder management.
• Be confident to work independently across all levels of management and across lines of business.
• Risk management - act as a subject matter expert in identifying, assessing and responding to risks. Able to apply expert judgement to consider the business opportunities and advise key decision makers, so they take the right risks at the right time
• Good knowledge of excel to manipulate the data for producer responsibility reporting.
