About the role

The Group Business Assurance (GBA) Change Assurance team play a critical role in protecting BT's Customers, Brand and P&L.

We provide independent oversight of strategic, operational, process and system change, ensuring risks are identified early, controls are effective and appropriate mitigations are in place before change is introduced into the business.

Working across BT's transformation portfolio, we assess customer, financial, operational and regulatory risk arising from change, providing insight, challenge and assurance that helps BT deliver change safely and successfully.

By combining risk assessment, assurance design and data-driven controls, we help prevent customer detriment, protect revenue, strengthen compliance and support BT's ambition to transform with confidence.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead discovery activities for strategic product, process, system and Concept-to-Market (C2M) change, developing a detailed understanding of customer journeys, billing processes, system interactions and end-to-end service delivery.
  • Perform risk and control assessments to identify customer, financial, operational and regulatory risks arising from change, recommending appropriate mitigations and assurance requirements.
  • Provide independent challenge and risk-based recommendations to project teams, product owners and senior stakeholders, ensuring decisions are supported by evidence and aligned to BT's risk appetite.
  • Work collaboratively within a project squad to design, build and implement assurance controls that provide ongoing monitoring and protection following change delivery.
  • Support the delivery of assurance commitments through the full change lifecycle, from initial discovery, risk assessment and discovery through to implementation, warranty and exception management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve control effectiveness, reduce manual effort and strengthen BT's ability to detect and prevent customer, revenue and compliance risks.
  • Produce high-quality risk assessments, statements of work, assurance requirements and management insight to support governance and investment decisions.
  • Use data and analytical techniques to investigate issues, validate outcomes, identify emerging risks and provide actionable insight to stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong governance and documentation standards, ensuring activities, decisions, risks and mitigations are fully recorded and auditable.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, customer focus and continuous improvement, helping BT deliver change safely and effectively.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Risk and assurance experience: Experience in risk, assurance, controls, audit, revenue assurance, business assurance or operational governance, including identifying risks, evaluating controls and recommending proportionate mitigations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to break down complex problems, assess business, operational and system processes, identify root causes and develop practical solutions, including experience using SQL to analyse data, investigate risks and validate outcomes.
  • Stakeholder management and communication: Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience working within Agile squads or cross-functional delivery teams, explaining complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, challenging constructively and influencing decision-making.

  • Experience supporting large-scale transformation, migration or system implementation programmes.
  • Understanding of assurance frameworks, control design, risk management or audit methodologies.
  • Knowledge of product lifecycle, customer journey or end-to-end business process mapping.
  • Experience using SQL, BigQuery, GCP or other analytical tools to investigate data and validate outcomes.
  • Experience designing, implementing or operating automated assurance controls.
  • Understanding of regulatory, compliance or customer risk considerations within a complex business environment.
  • Professional qualifications or training in Risk Management, Audit, Assurance, Project Management or Business Analysis.
