About the role

The Software Engineering Specialist independently executes advanced activities to deliver the engineering strategy and roadmap that supports BT's commercial strategy through cross functional business partnering and the participation of a team that pursues innovation as well as engineering excellence.

What you’ll be doing

• People Management

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of analysts, developers, and functional specialists.

• Manage performance, career development, succession planning, and employee engagement.

• Support hiring, onboarding, training, and capability building within the team.

• Ensure effective resource planning and allocation to meet business priorities.

• Reporting & Analytics

• Manage delivery and support of reporting and analytics solutions.

• Ensure reporting services are accurate, reliable, and aligned with business requirements.

• Drive continuous improvement in reporting processes and data quality.

• Operational Management

• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting activities.

• Ensure operational stability and timely resolution of incidents and issues.

• Maintain service levels and support business-critical processes.

• Stakeholder Management

• Build strong relationships with business and technology stakeholders.

• Understand business priorities and translate them into actionable deliverables.    
• Provide regular updates on delivery progress, risks, and dependencies.    
• Requirements & Delivery Coordination

• Coordinate requirements gathering across business teams and delivery squads

• Prioritise demand and ensure clear handover of requirements to delivery teams.

• Track progress and ensure commitments are delivered within agreed timelines.

• Manage risks, issues, and dependencies impacting delivery.

• Licensing & Vendor Management

• Manage software licence requirements, utilisation, and compliance.    
• Coordinate with vendors and partners to ensure effective service delivery.    
• Support budget and cost optimisation activities.    
• AI & Innovation.

• Drive adoption of AI, automation, and digital capabilities within the function.    
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity and decision-making through AI-driven solutions.    
• Support delivery of innovation and transformation initiatives.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Strong people leadership and team management experience.
  • Experience in reporting, analytics, planning, or enterprise applications.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience managing operational support and service delivery.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and drive execution.
  • Knowledge of AI, automation, and digital transformation initiatives.
