About the role

We are seeking an experienced Platform SRE Engineer to support and maintain BT's RF Shaper & Coverage Analysis Platform, a cloud-native AWS solution used for coverage modelling, RF optimisation, network planning, geospatial analytics and operational decision support. The role is responsible for ensuring platform availability, reliability, security and performance while managing production incidents, upgrades, maintenance, disaster recovery and continuous service improvements. The successful candidate will provide operational ownership of a business-critical AWS analytics platform supporting RF engineering and coverage analysis workloads.The successful candidate will combine strong AWS operational expertise, data platform support experience, and SRE best practices with strong hands-on AWS experience supporting production-grade data, analytics and RF engineering platforms. They should be confident operating AWS services used across ingestion, orchestration, processing, governance, analytics and serving layers and understand the operational needs of geospatial transformation. 

What you’ll be doing

  • Own day-to-day operational support of the production platform.
  • Monitor platform health, availability, performance and reliability using CloudWatch, CloudTrail and operational dashboards.
  • Manage incidents, problems, root cause investigations and service restoration activities.
  • Ensure platform SLAs, SLOs and operational KPIs are consistently achieved.
  • Coordinate production support activities with engineering, business stakeholders and third-party suppliers.
  • Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across AWS services and application components.
  • Optimise platform throughput, scalability and cost efficiency.
  • Implement capacity planning, trend analysis and performance tuning activities.
  • Execute production deployments, upgrades, patches and platform maintenance activities.
  • Support blue/green deployment strategies and automated release processes.
  • Validate releases through smoke testing and post-deployment monitoring.
  • Enhance logging, tracing and audit capabilities across the platform.
  • Create operational runbooks, support documentation and recovery procedures.
  • Drive continuous service improvement initiatives using operational metrics and trend analysis.
  • Manage backup, recovery and restoration processes.
  • Validate disaster recovery readiness through regular testing.
  • Support multi-AZ and DR strategies across AWS regions.
  • Ensure recovery procedures meet operational recovery objectives. (RTO and RPO)

Essential Skills / Experience

  1. Strong hands-on experience operating and supporting enterprise-scale AWS cloud environments.

  1. Strong experience of supporting data analytics workloads and orchestration processes for large volume data ingestion, enrichment, aggregation and schema validation.
  2. Experience supporting highly available cloud services in 24x7 production environments.
  3. Understanding of observability tooling, distributed tracing and proactive monitoring.
  4. GitOps experience with Gitlab CI/CD, SonarQube, Harbor and Nexus.
  5. Strong understanding of networking, VPCs, load balancing, DNS and security controls.
  6. Experience with Linux administration and containerised platforms.
