About the role
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineering Professional to handle the operation, optimisation, and continuous improvement of the AWS cloud infrastructure underpinning the Common Data Fabric (CDF) platform. The role is responsible for ensuring the platform remains secure, resilient, scalable, observable, and cost-efficient whilst supporting critical data and analytics workloads.
The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in AWS cloud services, serverless architectures, observability engineering, and automation at scale. They will work closely with data engineers, platform teams, architects, and stakeholders to deliver highly available cloud solutions and drive operational excellence across the CDF ecosystem.
What you’ll be doing
- Own and maintain the AWS infrastructure powering the Common Data Fabric platform.
- Design, implement, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure using AWS best practices.
- Develop and operate robust observability solutions, including monitoring, logging, distributed tracing, alerting, dashboards, and operational analytics.
- Establish proactive monitoring and site reliability practices to improve platform health, availability, and service performance.
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex production incidents involving serverless and cloud-native architectures.
- Support and optimise AWS serverless services including AWS Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, Amazon Event Bridge, Glue, Amazon S3, Athena and Amazon API Gateway.
- Drive cloud cost optimisation initiatives by identifying inefficiencies, reducing waste, rightsizing resources, and improving utilisation.
- Develop operational runbooks, resilience testing strategies, disaster recovery procedures, and platform support documentation.
- Partner with security teams to ensure compliance, governance, and implementation of cloud security best practices.
- Support platform upgrades, migrations, continuous improvement initiatives, and operational readiness activities.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Strong hands-on experience operating and supporting enterprise-scale AWS cloud environments.
- Decent knowledge of AWS serverless technologies including Lambda, Step Functions, Event Bridge, API Gateway, Glue, S3, and Athena.
- Proven experience designing and implementing observability solutions using services such as Amazon CloudWatch, Grafana, Open Telemetry and Centralised logging and dashboarding solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across complex distributed systems.
- Experience conducting root cause analysis and driving incident resolution for production-critical services.
- Knowledge of infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
- Sound understanding of cloud networking, security, IAM, encryption and access management.
- Experience managing platform performance, reliability, capacity, and resilience.
- Excellent scripting and automation skills using Python and/or Shell scripting.
- Strong ownership mindset with a focus on platform reliability and customer outcomes.
- Calm and methodical approach to major incident management and production support.
- Data-driven decision maker with a continuous improvement mentality.
- Effective communicator capable of engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders.
