About the role
The Software Engineering Manager coordinates the execution of the engineering strategy and roadmap that supports BT's commercial strategy through cross functional business partnering and the participation of a team that pursues innovation as well as engineering excellence.
What you’ll be doing
1.Engineering Leadership
Lead and manage multiple engineering teams across Development, QA, DevOps, and Support.
Drive hiring, mentoring, team development, and engineering best practices.
Establish delivery governance and ensure high-performing teams.
2. Procurement Application Ownership
Own the Procurement application portfolio, roadmap, and overall application health.
Ensure application availability, performance, security, compliance, and resilience.
Manage application lifecycle activities including upgrades, releases, vendor support, and risk management.
3. Delivery & Transformation
Lead end-to-end delivery of procurement technology initiatives and transformation programs.
Manage delivery across internal teams, vendors, and system integrators.
Ensure delivery against scope, timelines, budget, and quality expectations.
Procurement Platform Expertise
Strong experience with Procurement platforms, Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM), and Source-to-Pay (S2P) solutions.
Lead platform modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
4. Agile & DevOps
Proven experience leading Agile, Scrum, and DevOps delivery models.
Drive sprint planning, backlog management, delivery tracking, and continuous improvement.
Technology & Architecture
Strong understanding of cloud technologies, APIs, microservices, automation, and DevOps practices.
Ability to review solution designs and align engineering solutions with enterprise architecture and security standards.
5. Stakeholder & Vendor Management
Experience managing senior business stakeholders, product owners, vendors, and technology partners.
Strong governance, risk management, budgeting, and reporting skills.
6. AI & Automation
Experience driving AI, GenAI, automation, and digital transformation initiatives within enterprise environments.
The skills you’ll need
- 8-12 years of experience in Software Engineering, Enterprise Applications, or Digital Technology delivery.
- 5+ years leading software engineering or technology teams.
- Proven experience managing enterprise application portfolios.
- Strong experience delivering Procurement Platform Transformation programmes.
- Strong experience delivering Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) transformation programmes.
- Experience working within Source-to-Pay (S2P) business processes and operating models.
- Experience leading globally distributed engineering and support teams.
- Experience working with third-party vendors and system integrators.
- Experience operating within Agile, DevOps, and DevSecOps environments.
