Why this job matters

We are looking for a Senior Platform Manager, Optical Platforms who will be responsible for the UK core fibre networks, in-country fibre networks elsewhere in the world, and our global terrestrial transmission capability. The UK platforms support critical national infrastructure, both on the mainland and NI and across to the many islands which make up the UK as a whole. 


You will be responsible and accountable for the full life cycle of these platforms including decisions on design, delivery, risk and operations to achieve customer experience, platform performance and business improvements, cost effectively and securely, and in line with the associated national or international regulations, and you will drive transformation across all aspects of your platforms. 

 

In addition, as part of the Connectivity Leadership Team and Fixed Networks SMT you will be expected to take an active part in cross-unit transformation activities, taking a lead where appropriate, and interworking with other units to achieve common goals. 

What you’ll be doing

  • Accountable for delivering and shaping Optical platforms strategy to enable the achievement of Fixed Networks and the Connectivity team’s goals.
  • Operational responsibility for delivery of customer, business and people outcomes and setting decision frameworks in line with business units plans. 
  • Works collaboratively across business units and functions to ensure the relevant inputs are captures that influence network architecture, build and health. 
  • Roadmaps for multiple platforms, unit wide efficient resourcing plans, program deliveries in a cost-efficient manner and escalation point for all accountable platforms.
  • Assessing security risks and putting in place mitigations. Sign-off security and regulatory compliance in line with agreed processes.
  • Management and control of intrusive activities on or affecting the platform within timescales and to agreed standards, ensuring that Change. Management/Planned Engineering Work is communicated, authorised and undertaken professionally.
  • Representing BT in standards bodies and consortia as appropriate to the role and business requirements.
  • Identifying opportunities to maximise benefit from our transmission infrastructure and technologies.
  • Delivering positive engagement and organisational health across the team, including resource planning, and team development.
  • Maintain and develop close and effective relationships with vendors and support procurement in negotiation.

What you'll bring

 

MANDATORY:

 

  • People Management- Able to confidently handle the full employee lifecycle, succession plan and create brilliant high performing teams. 
  • Knowledge of Network technology: 
    • Knowledge of network technology and technology introduction. 
    • Track record in transferring understanding between technology domains.
  • Expert in managing the lifecycle of network platforms including budgeting, building strategic vendor partnership, third party working, Stakeholder Management, UK and international regulatory compliance, working with standards bodies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Managing expectations and the level of stakeholder engagement. Ability to manage to complex political relationships in a variety of business and technical situations
  • Commercial Acumen
  • Problem Solving & be agile

  • Transformational Leadership: Skilled in setting a vision, inspiring teams, challenging the status quo, and recognizing achievements throughout the transformation process. Experienced in managing diverse, multi-disciplinary teams, including senior management.
  • Navigates Digital: Identifies and coordinates ways to improve the way the team works digitally. Collaborates with others in and outside of BT to bring best practices into the team.
