Why this job matters
The Organisation Design Specialist role holder is primarily supporting to simplify team structures and workflows. You will be accountable for the design & delivery of organisation design projects and operating model transformations from start to finish. You will collaborate with People & Culture Partners and Senior Leaders on transformation programs to enhance organisational effectiveness and efficiency. You will share learning and best practices across People & Culture to ensure consistent delivery and execution of transformations. Your role is to advocate good practices in organisation design, team effectiveness, and change management, focusing on improving colleague experience and business performance. The OD Specialist will oversee organisation and job architecture, including role sizing, governance, and assurance. The OD Specialist is part of a wider OD Centre of Excellence.
What you’ll be doing
- Accountable for owning and delivering organisation design projects as part of the BT operating model
- Support senior stakeholders and P&C Partners through Operating Model Transformations by facilitating current state operating model assessments, defining, and designing of target operating models and transformation roadmaps including organisational structures, ways of working, governance and decision-making, skills and capabilities, etc
- Provide organisation design and effectiveness expertise and coaching to senior stakeholders and P&C stakeholders, including interventions to address organisational, team or leadership.
- Applies deep specialist knowledge to provide advice, interpretation and guidance on organisation design practices and processes
- Applies specialist knowledge on Agile practices and methodology
- Collaborates with the business, leading specialist service provision on organisation design (through projects contracted with each P&C Director/ transformation directors)
- Act as a specialist, interfacing with P&C Partners and other P&C COEs, business stakeholders and representation of BT with external parties applying external best practice
- Leads regular/ ad hoc activities to review best practice and industry standards
- Work collaboratively, adapt and flex your style for different audiences to deliver results in a global, matrixed organisation.
The skills & experience you'll need
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to translate ‘data speak’ for the benefit of business and People & Culture stakeholders
- Management or internal consulting experience: direct experience within management or in an internal consultant role preferred but not mandatory
- HR domain experience: direct experience within HR preferred but not mandatory
- Organisation design–Develops and facilitates the implementation of organizational design to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with business strategy.
- Operating model Design- Designs how best to organise a company and its resources to effectively deliver the organisation's strategy.
- Systems thinking- sees complex entities as a series of components with each part interacting with and influencing the rest when solving problems.
- Storytelling / Influencing: Communicates information, tailored to a specific audience, with a compelling narrative, changing or affecting the opinions of other people.
- Commercial Acumen: Possesses knowledge of critical business concepts relevant to the business unit and demonstrates the ability to use deep business knowledge to inform decision-making.
- Agile Methodologies / Collaboration: Driving the embedment of agile ways of working and behaviours into HR practices, promoting flexibility, continuous improvement, prioritisation and collaboration
- Growth Mindset: Continuously seeks opportunities to grow new and existing skills, with a commitment continuous learning and reflection
- Data Analysis / Decision Making: Against a backdrop of competing requirements, uses data insights to make difficult trade-offs and make clear, reasoned recommendations on priorities
