About the role

As a Service Performance Data and Infrastructure Professional, you’ll play a central role in transforming how BT manages, understands and uses data to support our UK Business customers. You’ll work at the heart of the team responsible for importing, rationalising and optimising complex data sets - ensuring our data warehouse remains accurate, reliable and capable of powering high‑quality reporting, analysis and insight. From configuring data imports to improving quality and validation processes, your work enables us to maintain the highest standards of service performance and deliver a brilliant experience to customers every single day.

This role directly supports some of BT’s most critical and high‑profile customers, including security services, police forces, utilities, banks and major retailers. The quality of your data management has a tangible impact on how these organisations operate - and any service disruption could have real‑world consequences. By driving automation, improving reporting capabilities and enhancing the integrity of our data, you’ll strengthen customer confidence, support better decision‑making, and help BT continue to grow, innovate and deliver exceptional service. Simply put, the work you do behind the scenes helps keep vital services running and protects the strength of the BT brand.

The successful candidate must be willing to undergo National Security Vetting, including Government Security Clearance (SC) and NPPV levels, which requires residency in the UK for a minimum of five years.

What you’ll be doing

In this hands‑on role, you’ll play a key part in keeping our data accurate, consistent and ready to enable contractual and complex reporting for our UK Business customers. You’ll support the configuration and execution of data imports, making sure everything follows agreed standards and protects customer privacy. You’ll help rationalise and standardise data from multiple sources, carrying out quality checks, validating outputs and escalating issues so they can be fixed quickly and confidently.

You’ll work with the team to optimise queries, follow established processes, and support the maintenance of our wider data and reporting infrastructure. Part of your role will be keeping our documentation up to date - capturing data processes, transformations and sources clearly and storing them where everyone can access them.

You’ll also get involved in automating routine tasks, learning and applying approved tools to help the team work more efficiently. Collaboration is key, so you’ll share ideas, contribute to continuous improvement and engage with stakeholders by providing accurate updates, clear insights and well‑prepared reports or dashboards. Working in an Agile environment, you’ll take part in and take your turn to lead team meetings, follow best practices and help us continually improve how we deliver for our customers.

Essential skills/experience

  • Practical experience with SQL, SSIS and Visual Studio, including an understanding of data transformation, optimisation and ELT principles.
  • A proactive approach with problem solving skills, confidently identifying issues and using approved tools and techniques to resolve them.
  • Strong attention to data quality, with the ability to follow structured processes that maintain integrity, security and compliance.
  • Working knowledge of data warehousing concepts, with the ability to apply them confidently under guidance, alongside familiarity with database management and reporting infrastructure.
  • A collaborative mindset, able to work closely with colleagues, share best practice and learn from more experienced engineers.

Desirable skills/experience

  • Exposure to cloud data platforms (e.g., GCP) and a willingness to build capability in data feeds, transformation and access management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to translate technical requirements into clear, practical and customer focused solutions.
  • Currently working towards or already holding ITIL 4 Foundation certification, with at least one year’s practical experience in an ITIL based environment.
