Why this job matters

The unit of delivery is the cross functional squad. Embedded Agile Delivery Managers help make our squads more effective and are accountable for driving the delivery and delivery process of our digital products and services towards outcomes.   

There are three core aspects to any delivery manager role: 

  • Delivery Mechanics: Managing the delivery processes ensuring there is an iterative plan to work towards with tight feedback loops. Maintains delivery momentum and manages blockers, risks and impediments. 

  • Squad dynamics: Taking the lead on establishing healthy squad dynamics and routines. Making sure the squad is working well and members are happy.  

  • Lean/agile practices: Has a passion for their subject area, coaching squads on agile/lean techniques and helps them apply them as needed. Creating an environment where continuous improvements of squads' working practices can happen, including measuring success, inspecting and adapting. 

What you’ll be doing

1. Facilitates the day-to-day delivery of the squad, ensuring alignment with the defined roadmap, timeline, and budget constraints.
2. Facilitates key Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily Scrums, retrospectives, and sprint demos, driving team collaboration and efficiency.
3. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues and provide regular progress updates, ensuring squad objectives are achieved.
4. Helps in identifying risks and blockers affecting delivery and coordinates mitigation efforts, ensuring smooth squad operations and minimal disruption across tribes.
6. Maintains an objective approach, applying Agile principles to resolve challenges and drive delivery success.
7. Facilitates collaboration across squads to ensure dependencies are managed effectively and delivery is optimized.
8. Works closely with other Agile Performance Coaches to enhance the application of Agile practices and foster collaboration.
9. Ensures adherance to the delivery roadmap, managing scope, budgets, and timelines to meet business expectations.
10. Fosters a continuous improvement mindset, learning, innovation, and effective problem-solving.
11. Facilitates regular reporting on squad progress, highlighting challenges and ensuring transparency with stakeholders to enable timely interventions.

Experience you'll have

  • Knowledge and experience of delivery practices and experience of delivering in an environment using enterprise technology. 
  • Know-how to drive squads and set the pace, ensuring squads are working towards defined (and where needed shared) outcomes.
  • Experience leading annual, quarterly, and continuous planning processes, translating product managers' visions into deliverables and delivery plans in a complex, large-scale environment. 
  • Support effective budget management within the constraints of business. You know how to monitor projected budgets against expenditure.
  • By understanding and tracking DORA metrics, you can drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure they are incorporated into backlogs where applicable.

  • Scrum Master Certification
  • Relevant Project Management qualification (AgilePM, PMP, Agile, Lean)
  • Relevant Lean / Agile qualifications
  • Relevant Change Management / Facilitation qualifications
