What you’ll be doing
- Support the implementation of BT’s Data Retention & Archival framework, ensuring data is stored, archived, or deleted per regulatory and business requirements.
- Assist in monitoring data retention schedules, ensuring compliance with data lifecycle policies.
- Help document and maintain retention policies, working with Legal & Compliance teams to align policies with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct audits and data lifecycle reviews, ensuring data is managed according to governance controls.
- Assist in maintaining governance tooling for data retention (e.g., tracking retention schedules in enterprise data platforms).
- Generate compliance reports and dashboards, providing insights into data retention and archival adherence.
- Support automation efforts, helping implement automated retention enforcement across systems.
- Engage with business units, providing guidance on data retention best practices and ensuring compliance with established frameworks.
Essential Skills / Experience
Functional Knowledge & Technical Skills
- Basic understanding of data governance, data retention policies, and archival best practices.
- Familiarity with GDPR, DORA, Ofcom regulations related to data lifecycle management.
- Ability to track and report on compliance metrics for data retention & archival.
- Experience working with data management tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, or governance tooling such as Collibra, Ab Initio).
Business Expertise
- Understanding of risk management and compliance frameworks in large enterprises.
- Ability to interpret retention requirements and apply them to data lifecycle workflows.
Desirable Skills / Experience
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring data retention policies are properly documented and monitored.
- Ability to work collaboratively across Legal, Compliance, and Data Management teams.
- Good communication skills, ensuring retention policies are clearly explained to business users.
Experience we would desire
- 2-4 years of experience in Data Governance, Compliance, or Data Management roles.
- Exposure to data retention, archival frameworks, and risk compliance in enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of data lifecycle policies, metadata management, and data classification.
- Experience working with regulatory requirements and audit processes related to data storage and deletion.
- Experience in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or other reporting tools for compliance tracking.
