Why this job matters

The role holder can be responsible for providing effective support of large projects and leadership of small/medium projects, dealing with all relevant issues, often without the guidance of the manager. May involve managing units of leads and other managers of teams.  He/she provides support/leadership in the formulation of network, technology, systems and information strategy and evolution plans. The role holder can also be responsible for supporting real time operational systems providing leadership and guidance on resolving complex technical issues owning operational processes and ensuring support is provided to meet service level standards. The role holder meets business objectives, solves business problems and furthers business success by applying industry, applications and technical knowledge through the definition of high level solutions. In addition he/she may work proactively with the business to define new product developments.

The role holder should leverage the experience of the relevant BT wide professional communities to discharge these responsibilities, thus ensuring knowledge sharing extends beyond the functional boundary of the role.  The role holder may also play a key part in the BT wide professional communities.

This role requires close engagement with stakeholders, workshop with field engineers and smooth transition for 25+ apps across 20K engineers and then lead on the Mobile space on design and delivery
The individual will be responsible for the delivery of turnkey projects involving multiple applications, with a budget of 1.5 million pounds and above, working in collaboration with CIO teams, Release Hub, PoDs and multiple development teams across various locations. The individual will be responsible for a team of 35 or more resources with atleast 5 BT FTEs in his/her team. The individual will be completely owning multiple systems from conceptualization to taking it to live and then their maintenance on production systems. The individual will also be responsible for the cost and the quality of project he/she does and is expected to improve efficiency with each iteration.
 

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage and successfully deliver multiple parallel projects.
  • Manage team of around 5-10 including their performance management.
  • Manage vendor teams of atleast 30 or more resources.
  • Will be responsible for a total spend of 1 million pound or more.
  • Devise and own project plans, execute and monitor the same.
  • Drives BT’s efficiency targets both in cost and quality.
  • Analyse problems and review / propose solutions by presenting working PoCs (beta code).
  • To interface with both the vendors and internal organisation of Customer Experience teams, Users, Delivery managers, architects, designers, infrastructure teams, developers, etc.
  • Own the definition of the team processes and standards
  • To conduct regular project reviews and implement corrective actions.
  • Enhance efficiency of design, development, test, release and support processes by developing tools and frameworks as required.
  • To work on technical projects/operational support tasks for their managers or sponsors independently with minimal guidance. This may involve working alone or as part of a wider project/support team, managing specific tasks. 
  • Responsible for managing and developing teams or people for specific tasks or projects.
  • To draft reports and make recommendations to managers and project sponsors.   
  • To provide analytical and innovative input to projects/operational issues as well as support negotiations.
  • May involve managing project teams involved in the delivery of specific tasks associated with ICT based business transformation programmes, strategic projects and change initiatives within time, cost and quality parameters.
  • To lead the development and implementation and ongoing management of policies and procedures.
  • To work with internal, external and third party suppliers.
  • To act as a key contributor and provide expert advice to other groups on technical and operational issues.
  • To produce cost/timescale solutions/options and manage expectations as appropriate with customer or Business Unit/LoB teams.
  • To personally participate in and contribute to BT wide professional community activities where applicable e.g. knowledge sharing, best practice within BT and external industry. 
  • To use the relevant BT wide professional community framework to raise their skills and those of their team to the recommended PC standards.  

Overall Skills Required

  • Well versed in multiple development methodologies, especially Agile
  • Exposure to open source projects/tools 
  • Strong Technical expertise in Operating systems like Unix, OEL & as well as in Oracle Database.
  • Strong technical expertise in enterprise technologies like Java/J2ee 
  • Adopts new and emerging working methods to provide innovative solutions to meet customer needs
  • Ability to technically initiate, lead, motivate and mentor the team continuously.
  • Very Good negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong decision making skills

 

Essential Skills

  • Ability to manage and successfully deliver multiple parallel projects.
  • Has led a team of 35 or more with direct responsibility of performance management of a few. 
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong expertise in full stack development and technical expertise in react native, angular, java stack etc.
  • Knowledgeable in setting up governance model of medium to large programs.

 

Qualifications Required

Essential
Bachelor’s degree (in any stream) from NIT/ IIT/ IISc or equivalent university 
7-14 years of experience in the IT industry with atleast 3 years as project manager 

Desirable
Knowledge of BT processes
Working with large Telco service providers
Vendor management
Experience in working with geographically dispersed teams

  • Has a comprehensive understanding of professional communities relevant to the LOB and uses the PC development framework to maximise the potential of themselves, their team and the wider BT team.
