BT has set out on of one of the largest data transformation programmes in the UK in partnership with Google. Our business units have incredibly rich data sets that are evolving rapidly as we look to deliver the next generation of Digital products and services to our customers. It doesn’t matter where we look there is not a unit or process that will not benefit from using Data & Analytics, from simple management information reports through to interactive & proactive marketing messages provided to support key business applications through our single version of the truth.
Key to this transformation is the creation of a data fabric for which BT has selected Ab Initio as its core technology. BT’s vision of the data fabric is a self-service technology which supports the safe movement and consolidation of BT’s data at scale, through activated meta-data and automated policy enforcement. This role will be responsible for architecting new Data Fabric pattern, triaging new Data Fabric demand and performing assurance for data integration solutions.
What you’ll be doing
• New use case: review proposed solution architecture, assessment to ensure most appropriate data integration technology used, identification of new Data Fabric requirements/patterns.
• Acting as design authority reviewing and defining standards and guard rails for Data Integration design teams.
• Defining solution blueprints and architecture patterns. Proving new patterns through working proof of concepts.
• Providing technical knowledge to inform complex technology development and the use of innovative architectural approaches to solve high impact, complex problems.
• Keeping up to date with all new services from our Data technology vendors and establish how they can be used to enhance our fabric capabilities
• Document technical designs and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
• Design assurance ensuring both functional and non-functional considerations are given full consideration.
The skills you’ll need to succeed
• Technical Leadership: Clear experience in demonstrating Data Technology Leadership in multiple business sectors; at Very Large scale.
• Be able to clearly articulate complex topics to an array of stakeholders across the business and technical communities.
• Technology Choice: Be able to go Toe-to-Toe with the best people from our Data & Analytics engineering and technology vendors including Ab Initio and Google to stay ahead of new capabilities & services
• In-Depth knowledge and hands-on experience of Data and Cloud Technologies including Data Management, Data Fabric and Data integration from Ab Initio, Google and other complementary vendors. Knowledge of deploying and utilising Ab Initio on cloud based serverless technologies such as Kubernetes would also be useful.
• Engineering: Ability to understand and work with engineering level data teams.
• SecOps/InfoSEC: Converse and present to design board authorities
• Data as a Service Modern Architecture Methods, Approaches and Ways of Working
Required Qualification
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience with Ab Initio development.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with databases like Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
• Proficiency in Unix/Linux shell scripting.
Preferred Skills
• Awareness of Data Governance frameworks including DCAM and CDMC.
• Experience of using Ab Initio’s wider tool set for data management including Meta Data Hub, ExpressIT (including QueryIT, DQA) and semantic discovery. Awareness of Ab Initio development in the areas of AI and blueprints.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with other ETL tools (e.g., Informatica, IBM DataStage, Kafka).
• Ab Initio or cloud certifications are a plus.
• Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban).
