The Software Engineering Manager coordinates the execution of the engineering strategy and roadmap that supports BT's commercial strategy through cross functional business partnering and the participation of a team that pursues innovation as well as engineering excellence.

What you’ll be doing

  •   Design, develop, test, and deploy responsive web applications using modern front-end and back-end frameworks and technologies
  •  Estimate development effort accurately based on both high-level and detailed business or technical requirements
  •  Collaborate cross-functionally with designers, product managers, and stakeholders to define features and deliver scalable solutions
  •  Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  •  Conduct root cause analysis of production issues and implement effective resolutions
  •  Develop internal tools and automation scripts to minimize errors and enhance user experience
  •  Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of solutions
  •  Mentor junior developers, offering guidance and support to help meet project timelines and improve team performance
  •  Understand and contribute to the overall system architecture, including the technologies, services, and design patterns used—while ensuring the application is scalable and future-ready
  •  Exhibit strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, fostering a collaborative and inclusive development environment

Required

  • Advanced expertise in UI technologies and Java, with strong proficiency in JDK 8 and above
  •  Solid understanding of containerization and orchestration tools, including Kafka, Kubernetes, and Docker
  •  Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, ensuring reliable data streaming and integration
  •  Skilled in building and consuming RESTful APIs, with deep knowledge of Spring Boot framework
  •  Proficient in monitoring and CI/CD tools such as Grafana, Kibana, and GitLab Runner
  •  Experienced with ClickHouse database, including its architecture and core components
  •  Agile practitioner, having worked in Scrum-based environments with globally distributed teams
  •  Strong in requirements analysis, with the ability to present tailored solutions to stakeholders
  •  Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation abilities
  •  Background in DevOps engineering or similar roles, with a focus on automation and system reliability
  •  Analytical mindset and problem-solving orientation
  •  Well-versed in Linux operating systems, including system-level operations and scripting

Experience you would be expected to have

  •  10+ years of hands-on experience in full-stack development, with a strong focus on Java and UI technologies
  •  4-5 years working in cloud-native environments using Docker, Kubernetes, and Kafka.
  •  5+ years of experience in managing a software development team.
