Software Engineering Specialist

The Software Engineering Specialist independently executes advanced activities to deliver the engineering strategy and roadmap that supports BT's commercial strategy through cross functional business partnering and the participation of a team that pursues innovation as well as engineering excellence.
What you’ll be doing
- Design and develop high-performance Java applications with a strong focus on scalability and reliability.
- Build and optimize data streaming solutions using Apache Kafka, ensuring low latency and fault tolerance.
- Develop and maintain real-time analytics pipelines leveraging ClickHouse and Apache Druid.
- Design optimal database schemas and write highly efficient queries for large-scale analytical workloads.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, production-ready solutions.
- Perform root cause analysis and optimize system performance for streaming and analytical components.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to best practices in coding, architecture, and performance tuning.
- Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and performance standards across all components. and inclusive development environment
Experience you would be expected to have
- 6–10 years of hands-on experience in Java development, with a focus on high-performance applications.
- 3–5 years of experience in building streaming applications using Apache Kafka.
- 2–4 years of experience with ClickHouse and/or Apache Druid, including schema design and query optimization.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing real-time analytics solutions.
Required
- Expert-level proficiency in Java (JDK 8+), with strong coding and debugging skills.
- Deep knowledge of Apache Kafka, including partitioning, replication, and stream processing.
- Hands-on experience with ClickHouse and Apache Druid, including:
- Designing optimal table structures for analytical workloads.
- Writing highly efficient queries for large datasets.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and real-time data processing.
- Experience with Spring Boot and RESTful API development.
- Solid grasp of performance tuning and query optimization techniques.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong understanding of system design related analytical & performance management systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on scalability and reliability.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in agile environments.
