Why Business Unit/Function

We architect, build, and run BT's primary global asset - the core network and all the critical supporting infrastructure. The network enables every BT service - for our customers and employees - and our focus in on delivering a great user experience on the number one network. Why this job matters

The purpose of the Design Engineer Specialist role is to create, lead and implement significant technical solutions that could impact internally and/or externally. You will be required to select an appropriate technical strategy and deliver a solution in-line with architecture & security standards (without instruction or guidance to do so).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities

• Understand Business Needs & Propose Solutions: Collaborate with stakeholders to design scalable technical architectures.
• Cloud & Deployment: Use platforms like AWS for model deployment and resource management.
• AI/ML Expertise: Apply deep learning (TensorFlow, PyTorch) for tasks like NLP and image recognition.
• Data Handling: Perform data manipulation and analysis using tools like pandas.
• Clean, Scalable Code: Write efficient Python code with a focus on performance and maintainability.
• Application Development: Build robust, secure, and reliable applications.
• Feature Management: Prioritize and implement features based on business impact.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with design teams and support users with technical issues.
• Problem Solving: Conduct root cause analysis and resolve system-level issues.
• Adaptability & Change Management: Embrace evolving requirements and ensure effective communication.
• Quality & Delivery: Ensure high-quality, timely, and budget-compliant software delivery.
• Continuous Learning: Stay updated with new technologies and support team development.
• Supplier Coordination: Liaise with internal and external partners to meet project goals.

Essentials

• Strong Python and AI/ML background.
• Proficient in Git, JIRA, Confluence, and CI/CD practices.
• Telecom OSS domain knowledge (planning, orchestration, inventory, etc.).
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
• Experience in performance tuning and technical design validation.

Desirables

• Experience with large telecom providers.
• Relevant telecom certifications.
• Comfortable working with distributed teams.
