Why this job matters

In BTI Network 3rd Line and Operations we monitor and manage BT’s global networks and services, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This includes our core Global Fabric, MPLS, Internet and transmission networks that serve our BT global customers around the world. Our job is to identify and deal with any problems before they impact service where possible. Where this is not possible, we react to failures that do occur, ensuring we communicate to our customers and stakeholders quickly, accurately, and effectively, as well as ensuring we get service restored for our customers in the most efficient manner possible.

We work closely with other global teams, including field engineers, BT’s customer facing teams as well as other BT international Networks teams (such as design and platform.) and with our key external suppliers and equipment providers. As technology advances, the teams within BTI 3rd line and Network Operations are everchanging and ever-growing to facilitate for any growing demands on our network.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supports the delivery of routine daily activities and is accountable for system design, build, testing, validation, maintenance, and ongoing support of all network infrastructure components.
  • Participate and be the technical lead on incidents within immediate domain and be part of PIR write up and solution.
  • Propose and implement innovations for continuous improvement within 3rd Line Operations team.
  • Network Delivery: Support the Implementation of flawless change into the live network.
  • Will champion and build effective working relationships, both internally and externally to deliver business outcomes, adding value throughout. Responsible for delivering the change execution and assurance of Fixed network platforms managed by 3rd Line Operations team.
  • Technical Acumen: Apply your understanding of network principles to troubleshoot network faults within our systems and look at how you can optimize performance and enhance security across our infrastructure.
  • Incident Management and Resolution: Be prepared to support a 365x24/7 callout, providing third line technical resolution covering an extensive range of technologies.
  • Customer Focus: Be a technical expert who understands the end-to-end journey of our customers.
  • Growth and Development: As a technically talented expert you should enhance the brand of the team and support those around you to be accountable and perform at their best. 

Skills Required

  • You will be fully conversant and comply with Change Management processes and the supporting governance, including technical assessment/approval.
  • You will be confident and professional in communicating with all stakeholders, both locally and with members of the Senior Management Team.
  • Proficiency in complex technical transmission infrastructure, Network integration and acceptance, circuit configuration, test & turn up / fault resolution on SDH & DWDM networks, including Huawei / Ciena / Nortel / Alcatel-lucent / ADVA / Symetricom / TimePictra sync platform.
  • You will have technical knowledge of the E2E service journey on BT’s International networks and products. Developing and maintaining technical procedures to be used within the BT International organsition.
  • You will be able to adapt to emerging and evolving technologies, in line with Technology Career Map. Verifications testing and type approval for software releases and supervisor performing of live upgrades. Provide input to design and attend regular Operational Working Group meetings with Vendors.
  • You will have the ability to work in a high-pressure environment, dealing with major network incidents.
  • self-driven attitude towards learning new skills and aiding the development of others.

 

Beneficial

  • Knowledge of IP Routing and switching Cisco, and Juniper with relevant certifications (such as CCNA / JNCIA)

Experience Required

  • Technical Proficiency: Understanding of BT’s Optical and IP global core network architecture, design, and implementation.
