Broadband for millions of BT Consumer, business and EE customers .
What I’ll be doing – Your Accountabilities
Be an engineer with solid grounding of different automation technologies covering Software Development, Testing,
Pipelining, Test Automation, Lab Automation & Hardware.
• Be a Software Engineer with a solid understanding of the importance of Test-Driven Development, shared code
ownership, pairing, agile principles, and the management of technical debt.
• Be inquisitive and seek out new ways to use both old and new technology. To constantly improve the service delivery
to our customers by improving and automating the existing processes and taking advantage of new technologies to
implement and build new ones.
• To support the roll out and implementation of new working systems and tools into the IMC and Implementation
groups.
• Delight customers by delivering rapid agile change while the team work at a sustainable pace. Have a good head for
gathering, manipulating, and reporting data.
• Work closely with customers to deliver reliable and maintainable solutions.
• Build reliable and well-tested systems. Troubleshoot issues, actively seeking out problems and solving them.
• Be an active participant in the running of the team, helping our area be a great place to work.
• Engage with the wider business to identify opportunities for future work for your team.
• Experiment with new technologies to help push the boundaries of what your team is building.
• To train and coach the people and team to improve working practices and knowledge of network capabilities,
separacy criteria and capacity requirements.
• To work with the MFU’s to ensure KPI’s and measures are understood and can be reported against, especially
accuracy of testing and improving timescales for regression testing.
• Be able to understand and assess the strategic implications of new service and technology changes.
• To work with the research community to guide and advise on the capabilities of systems, understand latest
approaches and technologies to make best use of the systems and data available.
• You will be expected to influence design and delivery standards and strategies, revise or introduce new processes,
and help drive consistency across internal and external interfaces through automation.
Skills Required for the Job
Required Skillset:
• Technologies: Network and Broadcast technologies including Cisco, Juniper, and AppearTV, with a solid
understanding of physical infrastructure.
• Desired Technologies – Python, Selenium, ReactJS, Java, JavaScript, NodeJS, PHP, MongoDB, WebSocket’s, Nginx,
REST/OpenAPI/Swagger, Docker, Kafka, Git, Jenkins, Ansible, and Linux.
• Test Management: Strong knowledge in modern test management methodologies, including Agile practices,
Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD), and Test-Driven
Development (TDD). Experienced in aligning testing strategies with development workflows to ensure rapid, high software delivery and seamless collaboration across cross-functional teams.
• UI/UX Testing: Extensive expertise in UI/UX testing with a strong emphasis on automation. Skilled in validating user
interface functionality, responsiveness, accessibility, and cross-platform consistency using automated testing
frameworks. Proficient in integrating usability testing into CI/CD pipelines to catch UI regressions early and maintain
high-quality user experiences.
• Penetration Testing: In-depth understanding and hands-on experience in Penetration Testing, with a focus on
integrating security testing into automated QA workflows. Skilled in identifying and exploiting vulnerabilities across
Web and API layers using tools such as Burp Suite. Proficient in conducting threat modelling, vulnerability
assessments, and security audits to ensure robust application security throughout the development lifecycle.
• AI/ML in Testing: Extensive knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning principles, with a strong
emphasis on applying these technologies to enhance and automate software testing processes. Skilled in leveraging
AI/ML-driven solutions to optimise test coverage, improve defect detection, and accelerate release cycles through
intelligent automation.
• End-to-End Solution Design: Skilled in designing and validating integrated solutions that span multiple system
components, ensuring end-to-end functionality, seamless user experience and alignment with key non-functional
requirements such as operability, security, scalability and performance.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven ability to lead and collaborate across engineering, DevOps, and Operations
teams to ensure systems are secure, scalable, and reliable. Adept at driving alignment between QA and development
efforts, facilitating smooth integration of automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, and championing quality
throughout the Software Delivery Lifecycle.
• Communication: Experienced in conveying complex technical information effectively across diverse teams and
organisational levels.
• Media Services Knowledge: Understanding of the principles underpinning media distribution and the services
provided by BT to broadcast providers.
The skills listed below are examples of skills currently used but the ability to pick up new technologies is more important than
a particular skill:
• Practices: Test Driven Development, Agile development experience, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment,
DevOps, Automation.
• Understanding of TV distribution & low latency, high reliability networks.
• Networking and network packet analysis techniques (CCNP or equivalent an advantage)
Qualifications
• Degree level education (or) Relevant industry body memberships
• 5-10 years of Experience in Automation Testing Domain / Development Domain.
