Why this job matters

The BT Group Business Architecture team is part of the Strategy & Change (S&C) Unit led by the Chief Strategy & Change Officer, which in turn is part of the BT Group Corporate Units.

Works with the Group Business Architecture Director, Group colleagues and key stakeholders to co-create and govern business architecture and operating model designs, ensuring BT’s transition to its target state through clear artefacts, roadmaps, and alignment across CFUs, Digital, and Networks.


Key elements of the role include:

Business Architecture & TOM Design

  • Co-create business architecture and TOM artefacts with stakeholders to ensure designs are practical, adopted, and aligned to BT’s strategic and transformation outcomes
  • Set operating model design principles and architectural standards (structure, governance, decision rights, process, tech/data, skills) and embed them across the transformation portfolio
  • Maintain relevant Business Architecture and TOM blueprint across pan BT domains

Roadmap and Transition Planning

  • Develop roadmap to articulate the transition states linking capabilities, processes, and technology to TOM choices and strategic outcomes
  • Partner with colleagues in the operational areas and broader transformation team to ensure sequencing reflects operational realities

Governance & Conformance

  • Work with the Governance & Assurance Team to ensure conformance reviews to ensure designs adhere to architecture and TOM standards
  • Provide coaching and guidance to programme teams to embed architecture and TOM principles

 Analysis & Opportunity Identification

  • Identify efficiency and effectiveness opportunities through analysis of cost, people, and process distribution across the operating model
  • Establish, maintain and report productivity metrics

Engagement

  • Facilitate collaborative design forums to resolve interdependencies and drive consistency across architecture and TOM elements
  • Prepare clear, visual narratives for executive decision-making, surfacing trade-offs and recommendations crisply

Leadership

  • Drive knowledge sharing on emerging trends and changes in Business Architecture and TOM principles and practices
  •  Identify obstacles to delivery of the Business Architecture and TOM

 

Key Skills & Experience required

 

Skills

  • Strong operating model design capability (structure, governance, decision rights, process, tech/data, skills)
  • Conceptual thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to link architecture to business value
  • Driving disruptive change and influencing diverse stakeholders to adopt new ways of working
  • Ability to navigate complex interdependencies across business units, technology, and processes
  • Skilled in integrating architecture components (business, process, data, technology) into coherent designs
  • Inspiring communicator, able to create clear, compelling narratives and influence senior stakeholders
  • Excellent facilitation and collaboration skills, with a focus on co-creation and building alignment


Experience

  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing business architecture and TOM components in large, matrixed organisations
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain capability maps, value streams, and transition roadmaps.
  • Exposure to major transformation programmes, including as-is to target-state transitions.
  • Ideally familiar with architecture governance frameworks (TOGAF®, BIZBOK®) and process standards (APQC PCF).
  • Consulting-style experience in diagnostics, option development, and stakeholder engagement
