Exciting Opportunity for a Network Security Professional.
Why this role matters
Our purpose is to use the power of communication to make a better world. For each other, for our customers, for society and our communities.
This role exists to provide specialist technical support on complex network security and cyber security deployments for any and all of our UK contracts. Building intermate working relationships and trust through effective communication and meeting expectation and deadlines is key. Liaising with customer representatives or vendors and directing other support staff where appropriate will form part of the role.
Additionally, the support of new products and services is an important part of keeping pace with the industry and customer requirements and allows BT to maintain market position as key supplier of services. The role holder will therefore be expected to provide support in this area, working with confidence and initiative and applying excellent self-management in order to promote successful outcomes.
What you’ll be doing
- Collaborating with a team of passionate engineers who share a commitment to building innovative, industry-leading platforms while continuously developing their own skills.
- Acting as a key decision-maker during cyber incidents, ensuring mitigation controls and response measures are effective and appropriate.
- Providing expert security advice and remediation guidance to BT’s Lines of Business and external customers.
- Owning and completing integration testing for new products and services, including producing all necessary supporting documentation.
- Proactively supporting your team leader and line manager to achieve team objectives.
- Maintaining full awareness of the importance of safeguarding sensitive customer information at all times, reinforcing BT’s reputation as a trusted organisation.
What skills you’ll need
- Hands-on engineering experience with at least one of the following: network and security platforms (e.g., Fortinet, Cisco ASA/FirePower, Palo Alto), cloud environments (Azure/AWS), or scripting languages (Python, Go, Bash). We value engineering talent over specific vendor or language expertise.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, the OSI seven-layer model, and how data networks are structured and operate.
- Solid knowledge of network security principles and best practices.
- Familiarity with native cloud security and operating systems such as Linux/Unix and Windows.
- Experience in Security Operations, ideally from a 2nd Line perspective.
- Awareness of modern engineering practices, including continuous delivery and integration.

Don’t Meet Every Single Requirement:
Studies have shown that women and people who are disabled, LGBTQ+, neurodiverse or from ethnic minority backgrounds are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification and criteria. We're committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace where everyone can be their best, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every requirement on the Job Description, please apply anyway - you may just be the right candidate for this or other roles in our wider team.
