BT Group has an expansive property portfolio across the UK, and the purpose of the Technical Services Manager (Fire Safety) is to ensure that property asset investment decisions are technically and commercially sound which will support the business in ensuring continued delivery of its products and services. With a focus on Fire Safety, the role is accountable for developing and maintaining a best in class fire safety management strategy. BT Group utilises the services of third parties and consultants to help deliver its fire safety obligations, and one of the key functions of this role is to provide support to those third parties to ensure that they are given the guidance needed to meet their obligations and provide services that meet the long term strategy requirements of our business.

What you'll be doing

•    Responsibility for building assets maintenance and investment programme’s across the BT workplace estate.
•    Accountable for investment plans that maintain a resilient and functioning BT workplace (powered assets).
•    Accountable for outsourced partner infrastructure survey schedules and reporting cycles.
•    Provide subject matter expertise in M&E and Fire asset maintenance and investment principles.
•    Assist in the execution of property plans and transactions including asset acquisitions and disposals.
•    Support property projects including assistance with the procurement of professional services, construction, fixtures and equipment.
•    Liaise with departmental representatives to support all relocations and management of relocation services.
•    Provide reports and ensure property related data is appropriately maintained in systems.
•    Accountable for maintaining a proactive fire safety management strategy to ensure that BT Group remains compliant with all relevant fire safety standards in our buildings in order to protect life and reduce business disruption.
•    Supporting BT Group’s infrastructure investment programme with the successful delivery of over 1000 projects per year to ensure that all works undertaken take into account the specific requirements of fire compliance and safety across the estate.
•    Perform the role of subject matter expert within the BT Group Property and Facilities Services department on all matters related to fire safety, which involves working with all other business units within BT Group, and all external third parties to ensure that all works undertaken within our buildings are done so in a safe and compliant manner.
•    Promotion of positive fire safety behaviours and provide timely advice and guidance that will shape our processes & policies, and ensure our workplaces are safe for our colleagues.
•    Responsible for monitoring and managing the key performance indicators of third parties to ensure that all relevant fire safety related compliance requirements are met, which includes ensuring the effectiveness  of fire risk assessments undertaken on behalf of BT Group.
•    Undertaking effective investigations of fire incidents to identify underlying root causes and ensuring that findings are fed into the overall fire safety management strategy to deliver improvements in performance.
•    Horizon scanning to ensure that the business is aware of and informed of any upcoming changes to legislation or guidance that will impact the fire safety requirements across the group and ensure all such matters are shared across the fire safety community within BT Group.

The experience you'll have 

•    A strong background in building services and fire safety would be advantageous for this role. Having a broad understanding of the requirements of fire alarms, emergency lighting, sprinklers and fire stopping etc. would be beneficial to performing the role of a Technical Services Manager.
•    Understanding of regulatory framework: knowledge of local regulatory framework to support the compliant delivery of workplace services.
•    Have a practical knowledge of fire safety engineering, and be able to resolve complex issues to support the safe and effective delivery of projects across the estate.
•    Fully conversant with current fire safety legislation and technical standards, and their application in a property and facilities environment, and have a full understanding of current fire safety issues, trends and best practice.

 

You might also have

•    NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety or equivalent. 
•    Membership of IFE and/or IFSM
•    Third party certification in fire risk assessments.
•    Member of IOSH
•    Technical qualifications from an M&E background
