This is a hybrid model role (3 days a week in the office) based in Manchester

Why this job matters

This role is critical for achieving key business transformation by guiding the strategic vision of the software engineering practice.

You will enable business change to execute the roadmap that supports BT's commercial strategy through cross functional business collaboration. 

What you’ll be doing

  • Accountable for the BT group wide corporate function systems & IT strategies for areas like Legal & Regulatory, Properties & Facilities & Corporate Affairs.
  • Accountable for the pan-BT Archival platform, which helps terminate legacy systems by securely storing the data during the mandatory retention period.
  • Accountable for PPM (Project & Portfolio Management) toolsets that help the various business units keep a track of their end customer deliveries and revenue as well as understand the throughput of our Agile teams.
  • Accountable for various pan-BT tooling capabilities that solve specific business problems (e.g., business travel, ESG, health & safety etc.).
  • Defines the tooling strategies across the areas working closely with the Enterprise/Tribe Architects and create a multi year roadmap for the same.
  • Helps define the transformative business processes that help the different units become efficient through implementation of required tooling.
  • Eliminates legacy and works towards building a system estate in line with the BT Group wide architectural strategy.
  • Directly manages a large team of program managers, software engineers and leads from the front to deliver the right software for the business.
  • Influences various cross functional teams like business analysts, software testers, UX professionals and scrum masters to ensure the whole tribe moves in the direction of agreed strategy for that area.
  • Ensures the in life stability of the systems and works on continuous improvement of the system performance and capabilities.
  • Interworks with various units and stakeholders like Enterprise Architects, Directors of different Corporate Functions and other system owners to help drive the adoption of new tools.
  • Accountable for multi million pounds worth of gross managed costs.
  • Pre-empts business change needs, estimates and builds large multi year business cases and secures approvals from various investment boards.
  • Defines the strategy, vision, roadmap and delivers those for the stakeholders benefitting whole of BT Group.
  • Decides the effective ways of working with both stakeholders and internal teams and champions Agile methodologies and leads the tribe using capacity model principles.
  • Influences Director and MD level stakeholders on business strategies.
  • Demonstrates technical thought leadership that inspires the engineering teams to become their best.

What we need from you

  • Extensive experience in delivering large scale and complex programs efficiently.
  • Ability to manage, assess impact and deliver large scale change in complex, matrixed environments.
  • Consult and define on strategy, identify business outcomes and lead on delivery.
  • Extensive experience analysing and connecting concepts and components across the entirety of a domain ecosystem to understand how value flows through and diagnose and resolve complex problems across cross-functional contexts.
  • Prior experience with key domains like Legal & Regulatory, Corporate Affairs would be highly preferred.
  • Experience in leading software engineering teams across multiple technologies like Java, .NET, AWS and ability to influence and deliver solutions on SaaS platforms as well.
  • Ability to understand and influence budgetary decisions.
  • Solving business and technical transformation challenges across a vast and senior set of stakeholders.
  • Translating complex business needs into a vision and executing against that vision.
  • Strong communication skills that can deliver inspiring ideas.
  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience.
