What you’ll be doing
In this role we are looking for an Senior Economist who has experience across at least 2 of Competition, Regulatory and Policy Practices. This role requires a diverse Senior Economist who is comfortable consolidating complex economic solutions into clear rational for all stakeholders.
You will be involved in:
- Deliver high quality economic analysis and thought leadership to achieve the best possible outcomes for BT Group.
- Work with other parts of BT to identify key commercial or regulatory opportunities and risks from an economic perspective, applying best practice and innovative thinking.
- Lead the development and evidencing of economic arguments in regulatory or antitrust contexts, using rigorous economic logic, financial analysis and economic modelling as relevant.
- Provide clear, concise and timely economic advice and briefings to BT senior management and business colleagues, whether in support of a proposal or to objectively challenge an established position.
- Role model behaviours reflective of our values and help us work in an agile manner and with the best prospect of shaping the debate.
- Harness opportunities to develop your reputation and connections externally in order to help promote BT's views in relation to wider communications sector stakeholders.
- Represent BT in discussions with external stakeholders where relevant (e.g. Ofcom and government departments) and lead the preparation of consultation responses.
Skills and Experiences
To be suitable for the role we are looking for you to have the following skills and experiences:
- 5-8 yrs experience in one or more of Competition, Regulatory and Policy Economic practices.
- Economic analysis: passion for economics, ability to scope and conduct sound economic analysis and to lead others in performing it.
- Ability to articulate complex concepts in a simple way and tailored to non-specialist audiences.
- Experience in applying economics to commercial and policy issues.
- Ideally you will have worked in either a consultancy, inhouse economics team in Large Corporate or come from a regulatory business.
- Experience in managing the timely delivery of projects including alignment of key stakeholders behind key messages and evidence.
- Familiarity with applying quantitative and qualitative techniques which are commonly used in a regulatory, competition law and commercial context.
- Excellent influencing skills - verbal and written.
- Have a wide external professional network to tap into.
- Masters in Economics or Equivalent (Established experience as Senior Economist will be considered also).
- You will have gained these skills during at least eight years relevant work experience following a Masters degree in Economics.
