Why this job matters
This is a senior, group-wide Information Architect role, focused on defining and governing enterprise information architecture and information models across BT Group. You'll provide clear direction on metadata, data governance, quality, and compliance, and work closely with senior stakeholders and architecture teams across multiple business areas to enable consistent, scalable information foundations—particularly to support AI and broader data-driven initiatives.
This role sits within BT Group's architecture community, working across Data, AI and Corporate Units to define and govern enterprise information architecture and models that support effective data governance, quality, metadata management and compliance.
What you’ll be doing
The Information Architect will be responsible for defining and maintaining enterprise-wide information architecture and information models across BT Group. This role focuses on shaping how information is structured, governed, and understood—covering areas such as metadata, data quality, and compliance—so that teams can deliver consistent, trusted data products and capabilities.
This role involves working in the detail to develop and evolve core information models, while also engaging and influencing senior stakeholders across multiple business and corporate units. You'll collaborate closely with data, AI, and architecture communities to ensure the right tools, standards, and modelling approaches are in place to support strategic initiatives, including AI-enabled use cases.
Responsibilities will include:
- Lead the development and maintenance of the BT Group-wide information architecture, ensuring consistency across business units and platforms.
- Define and govern enterprise information models (conceptual, logical, and where appropriate physical), including key domains, entities, relationships, and canonical definitions.
- Establish and embed standards for metadata management, data quality, and data governance to improve trust, reuse, and compliance across the organisation.
- Partner with senior stakeholders (including architects, engineering teams, and business leaders) to align information architecture to business strategy, AI/analytics needs, and delivery priorities.
- Provide expert guidance and assurance on solution designs, ensuring teams adopt agreed information models, modelling approaches, and tooling.
Skills and Experiences
- Has at least three years’ proven experience in enterprise-scale information modelling within large, federated organisations.
- Proven experience in information architecture and enterprise information modelling in complex, large-scale organisations.
- Strong knowledge of data governance disciplines including metadata management, data quality management, and compliance considerations.
- Ability to work in the detail (models, definitions, standards) while also shaping direction and influencing outcomes across teams.
- Shows comprehensive expertise in developing and applying taxonomies, metadata standards, and information classification schemes.
- Can demonstrate successful use of information models to enable AI-driven solutions that meet regulatory and compliance requirements while supporting business objectives.
- Exhibits in-depth understanding of Data Governance and Regulatory Standards, with clear evidence of practical implementation.
- Has a track record of effectively influencing senior stakeholders, including Managing Directors and CxO-level leaders, on the strategic value of information management.
