Why this job matters

As an IP Specialist Paralegal, you’ll manage a portfolio of about 5,000 patent rights and design registrations, ensuring our intellectual property is protected and leveraged for success. Your work will be crucial in supporting our legal teams and maintaining our competitive edge.

What you’ll be doing

  • Attending to correspondence, docketing deadlines and accurate updating of a specialised IP management system (IPMS) database.
  • Maintaining a diary system including monitoring and actioning critical deadlines on allocated cases according to statutory and internal procedural deadlines.
  • Liaising with inventors, outside companies and others in respect of official actions and legal documents including the execution of agreements and notarisation where necessary.
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of Purchase Orders inclusive of the settlement and receipting processes.
  • Assisting with financial recording and preparing appropriate monthly/ad-hoc reports.
  • Liaising with outside companies regarding invoices and attending catch up meetings as required.  
  • Providing operational procedures, formalities and document management service to BT’s in-house and external IP legal advisors, enabling them to deliver rigorous, high quality and efficient IP legal services for BT Group.
  • Flagging changes in law and/or issues with cases as soon as these arise and suggesting solutions.
  • Preparing legal documentation and official papers (as defined in Intellectual Property Legislation for each country) on a worldwide basis.
  • Assisting with recording and/or updating procedures as required due to law or procedural changes.
  • Ensuring timely instructions of IP Registration renewal and maintenance fees.

Skills and Experiences

Required:

  • Patent Administrators Certificate (CIPA) or European Patent Administration Certification (EPAC).
  • Experience in intellectual property procedures and management systems.

 

Preferred:

  • Trade Mark Administrators Certificate.
  • In-house intellectual property experience with a multinational corporation.
