About this role:

The commercial and proposition team for SME is responsible for setting and delivering the business plan for the segment by creating the right portfolio and the right commercial/trading plan to deliver the business and customer outcomes to win in the market and grow the business profitably.


A customer propositions role requires a great understanding of our customers, our competitors and the market but also a focus on brilliant execution to take those ideas and turn them into reality – moving at pace. We are also looking for individuals with flair and imagination to think differently about what we do going forward to ensure we delight our customers and differentiate vs our competitors – the sky is the limit and it all starts with our customer proposition.


This role is focused on BTnet propositions and is responsible for having the right solutions portfolio and customer experience for us to win in the SME (6-250) segment market – with sustainable differentiation vs the competitors and profitable growth.


We believe that there is a big opportunity to grow the BTnet business in this space and this role will be absolutely crucial to making it happen.


Skills required for the role:


  • Broad customer proposition and marketing – Clear understanding and experience of successfully launching new customer propositions to market and large scale marketing campaigns and material pricing changes. Understanding what a successful go to market approach looks like for small and medium sized businesses.
  • Outcome orientated: The role holder must be focused on delivering the best outcomes, being ready to challenge stakeholders as needed and manage areas of conflict with data driven recommendations
  • Exemplary Communicator: Verbal and PowerPoint presentations that boil complex plans and processes into the key relevant information and/or decision point for stakeholders in BT Enterprise, at all levels from MD to managerial and operational sales and service teams
  • Effective planner and co-ordinator: This is a complex part of the market and the organisation. This role needs someone who can create momentum behind well-structured plans and effective governance in a highly matrixed environment
  • Leadership and Stakeholder Management: Leads, champions and manages conflicting priorities bringing the team and stakeholders with them on the journey:


    • Is able to clearly explain what they want and is skilled at holding people to account.
    • To lead by example, holding people to the highest standards but with respect, humility and integrity


Experience required:


  • Experience launching new products and/ or marketing campaigns in a scale telecommunications or other subscription based business. (Mandatory)
  • Previous propositions development experience (Desirable)
  • Understanding of UK telco market and segments (Desirable)
  • Business case and commercial understanding (Mandatory)
  • Engaging, presenting to and influencing stakeholders at all levels from MD to managerial across multiple areas (Mandatory)


Role holder responsibilities:


  • People: Effectively providing direction to a virtual team – building momentum and confidence around this area of the business
    • interfaces effectively into sales and commercial teams, and also back into the delivery functions of the customer solutions teams
    • Linking effectively into longer term transformation programmes such as the one setting up the future SME operating model
  • The Insight: understanding customer needs, market position, competitors, our sales channel capabilities, trends, anticipating and mitigating threats. Keeping constant pulse on what’s happening in the market.
  • BTnet customer proposition strategy and development:


    • Developing a market leading BTnet proposition that covers key SME customer needs
    • High quality GTM launch events and outcomes
    • Direct impact on trading and customer outcomes for the segment: measurable in sales, churn, ARPU and NPS metrics


  • Being the “voice of the customer”: ensuring we have the very best insight on customer needs and working with commercial, marketing and delivery functions ensuring we do what’s best for our customers. Ensuring these outcomes are measured in terms of NPS and customer success
  • Deliver MTP commitments: Accountable for delivering the specific commercial outcomes related to solution proposition launches and ongoing improvements – working hand in hand with commercial colleagues.
  • Work with relevant sales directors: Digital, Field sales, desk based account managers and Indirect to ensure our customers have an aligned customer proposition and go to market plan where possible. Carefully consider the current sales model and changes planned for the future.
  • Go To Market Planning and Execution: Co-ordinating and ensuring brilliant execution of all launch activity into SME (proposition launches, pricing and marketing campaigns)
  • Steering Delivery: Responsible for ensuring the relevant customer solutions leads have the right proposition requirements and that they are building high quality product and CX solutions that deliver on the customer proposition intent


Key decisions:

  • Decide customer proposition strategy, go to market roadmap and plan for key elements of the SME BTnet Portfolio
  • Decide insight plan to support solution propositions development
