Why this role matters
BT has clear carbon reduction targets to reduce its emissions by 81% by 2031 and be net zero on scope 1 and scope 2 in the same time frame. One key strategy to this is renewable technology, by electrifying its fleet over circa 30K vehicles, Solar, low carbon heat sources for our buildings and reusing infrastructure where we can.
This job will be helping driving some of these intitatives forward focusing on the EV and Solar strategies.
You will be responsible for realising current and new joint initiatives across our infrastructure related to renewable energy and the associated technologies. You support the wider team in delivering existing initiatives, as well as gathering insight on new and emerging technology. You will work with our partners across BT: Procurement, BT Fleet, Finance, & OR. As well as consult and manage expectation from a range of suppliers and their associated 3rd parties.
You will help to shape the roadmap of our future needs and implement the governance and controls to ensure we deliver to the agreed commercial model.
This role can be based in our Bristol, Birmingham or Manchester office. Our hybrid working model means you are expected to be in the office 3 days per week.
You'll have the following responsibilities
- Collaborating to shape our future strategy for new and renewable energy related initiatives including electric vehicle's and all associated infrastructure.
- Applying the appropriate blend of analysis, intuition and experience to break down problems, reach decisions quickly and ethically.
- Responsible for understanding the networks, skills and resources required to meet present and future demand, make recommendations that will satisfy this need and policies.
- Build strong relationships with customers, contract managers, regional managers, policy managers and users to challenge and certify plan accuracy.
- Extensive Project and programme management to generate solutions and recommend actions to deliver services to customer expectation.
- Building and managing the in life framework to assess service performance against plan.
You'll have the following skills and experience
Skills
• Stakeholder Management: Able to establish and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships and facilitates mutually beneficial negotiations to develop solutions, ensuring they meet current and emerging business and technical needs. Ability to work at all levels – ranging from MD to front-line across multiple CFUs.
• Programme Delivery Governance: Ensuring cost controls are in place, tracking spend to budgets. Ricks are identified and logged and called our where necessary. Forecast spend is tracked.
• Risk Management: The ability to identify risks, balance the threats and opportunities associated with the risks, take appropriate mitigating action against the risks and track and manage risk over their lifetime
• Business acumen: Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g. business KPIs, business cases)
• Financial Acumen: The ability to apply financial knowledge to the financial management of own work area, project, programme, business unit, business case or contract. Has good understanding of financial principles and is able to apply them to their immediate work area/project.
• People leader – leading, coaching and supporting other specialists in their work
• Ability to work in pressured environments e.g. in relation to bids or in terms of driving the necessary estate transformation
• Critical thinking – ability to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of a project or problem and offering alternative solutions, approaches and conclusions

Numerical and report/specification writing – strong numerical analyse and computational skills, together with concise and accurate report writing capability
Experience
• Specialist in power and/or mechanical systems
• You will be a qualified to BS7671 18th Edition
• You will have a solid academic M&E engineering background (BEng, HND, HNC), or the equivalent demonstrable work experience
• You will have demonstrable practical experience of: on-site power generation, UPS Systems, AC Switch-gear, HV Power, Fuel tanks, modular cooling, centralised cooling, airflow, BMS, iron work
• You will have in depth working knowledge of The Electricity at Work Act, The Health and Safety at Work At & Construction Design Management Regulations
• Experience in renewable energy
• A proven delivery track record of M&E infrastructure project delivery
• Comfortable in developing your expertise into emerging technology areas
• Ability to deal with multiple competing suppliers
• An understanding of commercial litigation and warranty claims
• Awareness and/or training in CDM
• Full UK Driving licence and willingness to travel extensively in the UK and occasionly globally.
