About the role
The Channel Lead is responsible for owning the strategy, performance and day-to-day direction of a brand’s social channels, ensuring each platform has a clear purpose, distinctive approach and consistently high standard of output.
They act as the connective tissue between strategy, creative, community and performance, turning broader brand priorities into channel-specific plans that feel native to how audiences actually use social.
What you’ll be doing
- Own the strategic direction and ongoing development of assigned social channels.
- Build clear channel strategies that define audience, role, content pillars, formats, cadence and KPIs.
- Lead the monthly and quarterly channel planning process, translating brand, campaign and cultural priorities into an actionable social calendar.
- Identify platform trends, behaviours, emerging formats and cultural opportunities that the brand can credibly participate in.
- Work closely with Creative Leads, Social Strategists and Community Managers to develop platform-first ideas and improve the quality of social output.
- Ensure content feels native to each platform rather than simply repurposed across channels.
- Review channel performance regularly, identifying what is working, what is not, and where content, formats or publishing approaches should evolve.
- Use social listening, audience insights and performance data to inform recommendations and future creative briefs.
- Maintain a strong understanding of platform updates, algorithm changes and emerging social behaviours.
- Champion experimentation, creating opportunities to test new formats, creators, features and approaches.
- Oversee channel hygiene, including profiles, pinned content, playlists, highlights, naming conventions and wider channel presentation.
- Work with Community Management to identify recurring conversations, audience behaviours and reactive opportunities that can inform proactive content.
- Partner with paid media and influencer teams to ensure organic, creator and paid activity complement one another.
- Establish clear channel best practice and help upskill the wider team on what great looks like across each platform.
- Present channel plans, performance learnings and recommendations to internal teams and senior stakeholders.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, audience behaviours and what makes content feel native, relevant and engaging on each channel.
- Confident creating and editing social-first content, with the ability to spot an idea, pick up a phone, get involved and turn it into something publishable.
- A proactive, confident personality who is comfortable contributing ideas, jumping on trends, working with creators and talent, and being visible in the creative process when needed
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to changing opportunities.
- Confidence working collaboratively with creative, strategy, community, media, influencer and wider marketing teams.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and recommendations to different audiences.
