Why this job matters

 

As a Technical Designer in our Defence Service Provider Networks practice, you will be working as a trusted industry partner to our defence customer and cross-functionally supporting internal business units (Sales, Business, Technology, Security and Operations), key stakeholders and externally facing third party technology providers as part of and reporting into the practice manager.


You will work with internal key stakeholders, the customer, and its subsidiary departments to define and create complex innovative fit for purpose enterprise network solutions in meeting their digital strategy and transform the way they can do business.


Underpinned by using robust ICT framework architecture, security principles, methodologies, industry best practices, and customer compliance polices. As a technical architect you will be providing expert subject matter design expertise and ownership throughout all stages of the solutions design engagement life cycle.


You will be part of an industry leading Technical Design Authority team working closely with other architects, designers, technology experts, business managers and business analysts. Where you will bring your expertise and diverse experience to each challenge ensuring successful solution delivery across a vast variation in highly sensitive and unique opportunities and projects.

What you’ll be doing

 

As a Technical Designer you will:

 

  • Act as a company, customer, and team ambassador
  • Serve as the primary technical architect, engaging with customers, stakeholders, and partners to provide expert design leadership aligned with architecture principles
  • Develop and own technical design artifacts, addressing complex technological requirements
  • Support Solution Design Authority and key stakeholders in shaping bid opportunities and providing subject matter expertise throughout the engagement lifecycle
  • Provide technical expertise for various deliverables, including proof of concept, bid collateral, and high/low-level design documents

 

Skills You'll Need

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), and Legacy Networks (PDH/Serial Communications), capable of explaining system topologies to non-experts
  • Proficient in creating engineering drawings and job packs from equipment Bill of Materials or system extracts
  • Familiarity with networking vendor technologies, including legacy solutions like PDH, Serial communications, and products from vendors such as Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent
  • Expertise in designing, configuring, and testing network technologies across current and legacy solutions
  • Demonstrated commercial awareness to ensure proposed changes meet customer CAPEX/OPEX requirements, with experience in risk identification, impact assessment, and problem-solving in large-scale network deployments.
