- Openreach provides services to entire UK through by planning the fibre on network, onboarding the customer, and servicing the customer in case of any faults. We have suite of systems in Physical Inventory and Capacity Management domains.
- This role would be key to have deep functional and technical knowledge to ensure we continue to support business while it is transitioning to Fibre from Copper.
- We will be doing re- platforming, transformation, rationalization, simplification for various systems and this role would be key to future strategy using deep technical and functional knowledge.
- The person will have experience in program management, solution designing and managing different stakeholders/vendors. Understand the telecom domain well enough, especially the GIS based physical network planning and ability to act as domain focal point.
- Understand need of multiple projects and communicate them divisionally and/or cross-divisionally. The role typically reports into IT head of planning and capacity management.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be required to have:
Strong Knowledge in Complex workstreams delivery of Openreach
Delivery
- Ensure deliveries are done on time, within budget with quality by internal and partner teams. You will be responsible for right sizing the team, managing a budget of around £2m annually.
- Knowledgeable in setting up governance model of medium to large projects.
- Drive the engineering practices within the projects and ensure compliance to maturity targets.
- Deliver new capabilities for business through Physical Inventory, capacity management system stack.
Transformation
- Improve resilience in our ability to make services highly available in Plan and Build, Capacity management domains. Ensure service stability, reliability and performance meets the business expectations.
- Rationalize and simplify the legacy stack by closing down legacy systems.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement suitable COTS/Inhouse/SaaS solutions keeping the business transformation and simplification aspirations at center of evaluation and execution process which is aligned to TMForum standards.
Strategy
- Define and own implementation of BT’s Digital strategy of cost-transformation at the unit level. Target: While the target is on an annual basis, the strategy to achieve efficiencies year-on-year span across 3-5 years. For example, insourcing, colocation, vendor strategy, systems strategy, etc
- Develop Architecture and Engineering roadmap in conjunction with Architecture & Transformation teams.
Security, Compliance and 3LS
- Own the security, compliance, upgrade, patching, provisioning & decommissioning of infrastructure estate as per published plans.
- Manage third line support for all components owned by the unit.
- Carry out operational risk identification & mitigation.
Manage Inlife
- Ensure Inlife issues are resolved within agreed SLA.
- Produce Root cause analysis and Prevention of reoccurrence.
- Establish appropriate proactive IT monitoring to capture the issues upfront
- Ensure Services are running as BAU and all Business KPIs are achieved
Skills Required
- Ownership – Owns everything related to the apps under his/her portfolio i.e delivery, service performance, inlife issues, transformation roadmap, security and EOSL upgrades.
- Stakeholder Management – Effectively managing stakeholders with assertive, data driven and progressive updates on delivery, escalations and inlife issues. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Delivery excellence – ensure business requirements are delivered on time within budget. Has strong grip on project planning and management. Right sizing the team, maintaining EBITA targets.
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement, both business centric and tech debt. Strong knowledge of GIS concepts, spatial technologies from ESRI, ENE and versioned database, strong functional understanding of the physical access network.
- Creating a culture of continuous development that nurtures a world class software development practice. Strong focus on engineering practice to deliver quality software. Drive and deliver DevOps, SRE initiatives.
- 12 -15+ years of total experience in delivering in GIS solutions. Must have technical experience involving ESRI / Opensource technologies like ArcGIS 10.6, ArcMap 10.6, ArcGIS Server 10.6, geoserver, postgis, oracle spatial, Angular, JS, and or Ericsson Network Engineering 16.1, NEIA, C#.
- Minimum 3-5 years related people management experience. Effective leadership skills with strong motivational and people management skills that will influence and drive the team to success.
- Ability to independently drive change within the team that will improve the overall efficiency and throughput. Ability to drive team through ambiguity and resolve blockers. Focus on driving solutions rather than highlighting problems, working collaboratively across teams.
- Prior understanding on Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable skills
- Software development experience in GIS applications like IQGEO, QGIS, GE Small world in telecom or non-telecom domain
- Ability to apply AI/ML/Analytics to solve GIS problems.
- Certification in ESRI technologies / GIS technologies
- Prior understating of spotify tribe delivery structure
- An extensive knowledge of the Telecom Business OSS / BSS stack.
- Commitment to the role with regular out of hours working.
- Self-starter who can lead the way by setting up prototypes for technical teams to follow.
The education qualification & experience you need
Essential
• Possess B.E. degree in Computer Science or related field
• Possess typically above 12 years of previous software engineering or related experience with atleastat least 3 years in people management roles
• Architecture and solutioning experience for large scale GIS projects
Desirable
• Transformational delivery experience using ENE is a plus.
• Working with large Telco service providers is a plus
• ESRI technologies and or Telecom certifications
• Experience in working with geographically dispersed teams
