Why this job matters
In your role as an Automation Tester at EE, you will support the critical testing activities for a portfolio of products and services, following best practice standards for test quality, resource planning and issue
resolution, in alignment to business strategy and requirements.
You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and functionality of the EE App home page through automated testing solutions. Your primary duties will include designing, developing, and executing automated test scripts to identify and resolve defects.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, and product managers, to understand requirements and deliver a seamless user experience. You will validate the functionality, usability, and accessibility of the components, ensuring they work seamlessly across different devices. Your role in testing our App is vital in maintaining the high-quality, consistent, and intuitive user experience that BT is known for. Your work matters because you help us uphold our commitment to delivering superior digital experiences to our customers.
Your meticulous testing helps us detect and fix defects, inconsistencies or issues early, thereby preserving the visual and functional integrity of our digital platforms. You will have brilliant communication skills to effectively defend the quality of our App and report on progress and challenges faced during the delivery lifecycle. You will be customer obsessed, always thinking about how the digital experience will affect the wide range of customers we serve.
What you’ll be doing
- Undertakes first level diagnostics, diagnosing defects against components using techniques and tools defined in the test strategy, identifies defects against the correct component in multi-component journeys, writes test specifications and test designs (scripts) and runs the test scripts to time cost and quality
- Supports the full lifecycle integration testing to support project deliverables
- Supports the team within its defined area to develop reports on accuracy, quality and errors in test diagnosis against the associated business or customer KPI’s
- Executes automation, functional, regression and load testing scenarios, applying solutions that validate the functionality of applications
- Supports the maintenance of test suites and ensures high-velocity, high-quality production pushes using any necessary manual tests
- Supports the communication of complexities of internal systems to help test against known issues
- Assesses and suggests ways to mitigate risks that have an impact on the quality of products and services
- Supports in the implementation of ways to improve working processes within the area of QA engineering responsibility
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Maintain and enhance our existing automation test framework.
- Transition the squad to a new WebDriver IO framework that uses TypeScript.
- Develop and execute automated tests to ensure product quality.
- Collaborate with developers, PO and BA to understand testing requirements and provide feedback.
- Review Requirement documents and ensure that all scenarios (both positive and negative) are covered by clear, achievable, acceptance criteria.
- Work together with testers across other tribes to ensure product quality and consistency for end-to-end journeys.
- Report and track defects, working with developers to resolve them promptly.
- Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved and new versions or builds are provided.
- Mentor fellow and junior QAs to help them build towards automation targets and reduce the manual testing needs.
- Review other QAs work across the tribe to ensure high quality standards are maintained.
- Continuously improve testing processes and frameworks to enhance efficiency and coverage.
- Coordinating the tasks within sprints and looking at ways to automate manual activities within software delivery process.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices in automation testing.
Skills and Experience Required
- Proven experience in automation testing, preferably with Mobile Apps (5 years plus).
- Expertise using JavaScript or Typescript.
- Proficiency in automation tools such as Webdriver IO, Cypress, Selenium, JUnit, or similar.
- Experience of integrating test scripts into Continuous Integration Pipelines.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong understanding of Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) testing approach.
- ISTQB Foundation/Automation certification.
- Working knowledge of JIRA / Confluence.
- Experience with Flutter applications.
- Expertise with automated testing tools (such as Applitools, TestCafe, Karma, Saucelabs / Browserstack, Headspin, Flutter, Appium,).
- Background in DevOps tooling for execution of automation tests such as Jenkins, GIT, PAAS, Monitoring / Log aggregation.
- Understanding of complex Headless / Serverless front end testing requirements
