Why this job matters

  • The purpose of Service Platform function is to design, operate and deliver market leading Mobile networks. The success of the function is based upon customer centric KPIs and proactive fault resolution, monitoring & resolution processes.
  • The Mobile Operations teams support and manage system and service performance of services for Mobile Voice and Data services for all mobile brands.
  • This person will be a member within Corporate Solutions related platform support and the platforms and services used to host them, within the operational and test bed arena.
  • They will drive improvement initiatives to the Mobile Network Corporate Solutions team and will identify, drive through to completion service improvement initiatives, by influencing both internally and externally.
  • The role holder will provide technical expertise on behalf of the team, engaging in major projects, supporting delivery of new or changes to all Mobile Network supported technologies.
  • The Corporate Solutions team is accountable for the delivery of complex business products and services into the network and ensuring the best customer experience for all DataVPN & IoT specific services.
  • Team members partake in incident, change & problem management as well as project related work. Members also participate in a 24x7x365 emergency callout rota.

What I’ll be doing – your accountabilities Skills required for the job

  • Proficient within Corporate Solutions, with a detailed understanding of mobile data architecture, protocols, principles and services.
  • Share accountability for the technical quality of the end to end DataVPN & IoT portfolio, ensuring systems deliver to the required level of service, to protect key business revenue streams.
  • Development of corporate solution designs to meet a complex mix of customer requirements and present the design & solution to customer forums.
  • Preparation and participation in key technical review events during the products life-cycle.
  • Technical stakeholder engagement with clients, peers, 3rd party delivery partners and vendors as required.
  • Carry out migration/maintenance tasks as part of optimization incentives or as required by the business.
  • Apply diligence & awareness in relation to potential infrastructure risks and vulnerabilities, paying particular attention to capacity and resilience.
  • Support and implement the strategy in respect of DataVPN, deploying new systems, configuration changes, managing upgrades and maintenance, whilst maintaining a high level of service availability, operational efficiency and quality.
  • Will be required to take part in departmental on-call rota as operational requirements dictate and in-line  with company non-standard hours policy.
  • Ensure that individual and team skills and behaviours are developed in line with business and operational 
    requirements.

Skills Required

  • Have a detailed understanding of mobile data architecture, protocols, principles and services.
  • Solid understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP models.
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols and technologies (IPsec, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, IPv6, BFD, QoS, MPLS, VLAN).
  • Proficient understanding of 2G/4G/5G mobile technologies & CUPs architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools.
  • Knowledge of network security covering Next Generation and cloud application firewalls.
  • Good awareness and understanding of the commercial aspects, implications and limitations of corporate products.
  • The ability to influence and drive technical discussions in the area of mobile voice and data services, in order to drive improvements to the service delivery and performance.
  • To be able to present information clearly with impact to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • To be able to understand commercial requirements and able to balance customer needs with business requirements.
  • Good analytical skills, and able to make judgements based on analysis of factual and qualitative information.
  • Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others.
  • A strong aptitude and a creative approach to delivering high quality services to our corporate customer base in order to ensure that they can leverage the maximum capability from our services

Experience Required

  • Proven extensive operational experience in planning, deploying and supporting mobile & IP technologies across multiple vendors, including Cisco, Juniper, Ericsson, Oracle.
  • Experience of network deployment for LAN / WAN and Data Centres.
  • Experience in network cabling including Fibre, Copper Ethernet, and configuration as well as networking hardware installation.
  • Experience of dealing with internal and external business customers, third party suppliers, and providing reliable communication between all parties.
  • Experience in a 24x7 real time, service support environment.
  • Experience in telecommunications operating procedures (incident, change and problem management).
  • Experience of handling & resolving operational incidents in supporting and delivering complex solutions successfully
  • Experience with object-oriented programming & data serialization language.
  • Experience with virtualisation/containerisation technologies, VMware ESXi, Docker, Kubernetes.
