The Converged Core network underpins 40% of UK broadband services and 70% of UK mobile backhaul, along with radio, satellite and subsea services. It supports the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure such as 999 services, Utilities, airlines, MoD and government services. Currently, the Converged Core team are amidst one of the largest, most complex programs of work undertaken by BT Networks, which is to transform the Core network estate to next generation infrastructure, software and tooling. One of the challenges of this process is to understand some of the legacy services on the estate, which entails identification of the various service and product types, categorization, engagement with associated platform areas and ultimately negotiating the most appropriate pathway for those services to the new network.
The purpose of this Technical Project Professional role is to lead on this highly interesting piece of work. Reporting to a Technical Project Manager, the individual will work with both internal and external resources of all grades across the business, maybe even 3rd parties, to help deliver the technical solutions, all the while protecting Converged Core and the wider business by ensuring defined scope and deliverables at the outset, monitoring throughout, and assuring the timely and quality completion of each solution.
A great communication style and commercial astuteness are key to this role along with tenacity and creativity in problem solving for both Converged Core and the wider business.
This role is based in Birmingham and our hybrid working model means you are expected to be in the office 3 days per week.
You'll have the following responsibilities
• Works with an integrated team in the delivery of end-to-end small-scale projects/ programmes contributing to commercial benefit, deliver on time, within budget and to agreed quality criteria from conception through to market launch and transition into operations.
• Supports complex and large-scale projects with regional impact (cross-functional), coordinating through delivery of execution, analysis, recommendation and implementation whilst ensuring a base level of technical specialism proficiency.
• Supports issue escalations, identifies project risks, dependencies and project changes, ensuring timely intervention and communication to stakeholders.
• Supports the development, documentation and implementation of projects and change initiatives in line with BT Group policies and strategies, defining and maintaining realistic project plans and tracking project finances and progress against agreed quality and performance criteria.
• Supports timely reporting on project performance and where decision making is required, providing all information needed to enable well-informed decision making.
• Reviews, suggests and executes process improvements and efficiencies with the engagement and delivery models.
• Supports the definition, documentation and execution of small projects or sub-projects, agreeing and reviewing project approach, engagement and communications plans, and quality and performance criteria with project partners.
• Supports in the implementation of ways to improve working processes within the area of Project/Programme Management and PMO where applicable.
• Facilitates effective working relationships between team members, and develops business/ customer and partner relationships, handling problems and issues, collecting and disseminating relevant information.
• Proactively identifies and manages risk through regular assessment and diligent execution of controls and mitigations, proactively raising any concerns.
• Ensures project delivery activity complies with the commercial obligations, risks and interdependencies defined within external delivery contract for their projects
