This role will be at the centre of the Mobile System Development data strategy. It will be at the forefront of growing our existing capabilities, providing new tooling and creating new ways of working. It will deliver thought leadership and innovation that will change how we support our product portfolio and how that portfolio develops in the future.

 

We believe this is an exciting role as we embark on new activites and move from data engineering solutions and more to AI which you will lead on. You will not be afraid to be hands on utilising your AI and data skills.  
 

You'll have the following responsibilities

 

•    Accountable for building data solutions to give customer teams actionable insight across the Mobile estate
•    Drive adoption of AI & Machine Learning across increase operational efficiency and allow teams to predict and preempt outcomes.
•    Working with stakeholders at all levels of the business to understand BT's data needs and how that data can be exploited to provide tangible benefits and value to the business.
•    Leading the team in the design, planning and delivery of cutting edge data projects to deliver stakeholder needs.
•    Providing technical leadership and technical authority for a range of solutions based on big data technology, distributed compute and hybrid-cloud platforms.
•    Develop, own and drive the AI & Data Engineering strategy and roadmap for Mobile.
•    Own the technical relationships with existing and potential suppliers and BT's strategic partners to ensure a mutual understanding of our needs, plans, delivery priorities and roadmaps.
•    Researching new technologies in the fields of data engineering, data science, and AIOps, evaluating their applicability to our needs through trials and PoCs.
•    Creates a software engineering culture that supports innovation and creativity while delivering high quality products with predictability and reliability, driving knowledge sharing on emerging trends and changes in principles and practices.
•    Own the MTP planning for TLR/TLC/Infrastructure/licenses for the relevant product families.

As well as technically strong, the role holder is likely to be a strategic thinker and will have a commercial acumen.

•    Leadership – Able to drive complex data lake projects by motivating stakeholders and breaking down barriers to progress.
•    Communication – can communicate complex issues, approaches and visions up to Director and MD level.
•    Able to build and maintain a strong network of stakeholders across the organization.
•    Is curious about technology trends and has the instinct to filter which are mature enough to be valuable and could be exploited to meet business needs. 
•    Will be recognised as a data subject matter expert and will lead the debate Mobile on technical strategy.
•    Drives the team to improve the way we work, the tools we use and how we share experience.
•    Expert knowledge in shaping technology deliverables for the best network and customer experience initiatives.
•    Proven record of forming strategic alliances to deliver a valued outcome for BT Group.     


Experience

•    Considerable Knowledge of Big Data and Cloud Data Platforms (Hadoop, GCP, AWS)
•    Direct or indirect experience of data modelling (physical, logical, conceptual) – including analytic classic star / snowflake schemas
•    Experience of Data Engineering and Data Movement (ETL,ELT,CDC,Kafka)
•    Experience with programming languages like Python, Scala, Java, etc
•    Experience of leading a high performing software team; building, coaching, mentoring and developing within the software engineering community
