Why this job matters
As a valued member of BT’s Networks Service division, you will be part of the Migration Control Centre which is responsible for the migration of new equipment and upgrading of the BT network. This is a critical role where you will be taking down parts of our network during nighttime hours and performing upgrades or integrating new technologies/software during time restrictive slots. Right First Time is essential as customers will be out of service and you will be accountable for reinstating the service in an improved state by adhering to strict proven processes. You’ll work on key projects for National Critical Infrastructure, providing the network which keeps the nation safe and protected.
Specialising in the Network Infrastructure Migrations space, you will be at the forefront of our major UK Network changes. No where has this much impact or risk on our network so it’s essential you have a sound technical knowledge, understanding of network change and skilled in risk management. This is the space in which we evolve our network to deliver our future customers needs, exciting right? Your technical leadership in the team will support the on boarding of new processes, validate and enhance our existing ones and effectively resolve issues and incidents. You’ll also support our daytime Integration Professionals with any new automations and projects because we have to keep moving forward and you will be an essential part in that.
You will also be liaising with teams across BT, with our vendors/partners and Stakeholders. Our commitment with Ofcom means we have to be sensitive with the information we share and who we share it with, you’ll work with integrity and mindfulness to ensure we remain compliant.
What you’ll be doing
• Sound technical knowledge, particularly with our main vendor, Nokia , to lead and support your colleagues on completing various UK Network Infrastructure upgrade activities.
• Highly skilled in technical fault resolution and process validation, you will be a go to person for your area and make decisions about risks.
• Own and manage any incidents or escalations, devising solutions with other business areas as required, implementing these in the network to deliver value to BT and our customers.
• Liaise with Change Management and Professional Services to ensure all network change documentation is fit for purpose and best practice is followed in accordance with Serious About Service
• Use technical skills and experience to onboard new projects, manage proof of concepts and process validation.
• Act as a SME to deliver automation, relevant system developments and process changes.
• Keep updated with activities beyond your immediate specialty in the team to understand the E2E process and customer impacts.
• Provide clear and effective communication when engaging internal and external stakeholders when undertaking new projects as well as keeping them up to date on progress.
• Responsible for your own continuous self-development and for the identification of personal and team knowledge gaps, identifying a suitable source of training to support personal and team development to the benefit of the business and customers.
• Accountable for contributing towards automation across projects by using available software tools to identify automation opportunities and write basic code to implement first to market solutions.
• Construct and develop new and existing playbooks and processes whilst using initiative to ensure projects are constantly moving forward without issue or delay.
• Data analysis on what we are delivering compared to forecast.
• Knowledge of the E2E journey and how our work benefits our customers.

Technical Skills:
• Sound understanding of Nokia hardware including installation, upgrades and fault resolution.
• Understanding of the BT network architecture and ability to consider and mitigate network change risks.
• Own and manage change activities and incidents effectively.
Experience you’d be expected to have
MANDATORY
Experience in installing, upgrading and/or repairing Nokia router devices.
Knowledge of BT’s 21st Century Network (Nokia Equipment), Converged Core and IP Platforms
Experience of handling network change activities and incidents including PIR ownership.
Complex fault resolution under time constraints.
Strong Interpersonal Skills and Leadership potential.
Good understanding of Network Delivery processes and procedures and contribution to their success.
DESIRABLE
Experienced in the automation of processes to improve light touch practices and increase output.
Agile and Waterfall development methods using JIRA, Kanban, others.
