Why this job matters 
The Key purpose of the role is to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of Field Delivery team members in the region who are engaged in high-risk activities including high voltage (11kva), radio tower working at height, night working and complex environmental hazards. The role holder will support responses to any duty of care escalations and be responsible for ensuring that the Field Delivery team to which they are assigned have the understanding, equipment, knowledge, and training to perform their engineering duties in a manner that protects the health and safety of themselves and other stakeholders and prevents accidents.   

This role will be based in the Birmingham office and will involve travel covering Wales & Gloucester

What I’ll be doing – your accountabilities 

  • Providing advice and guidance to Field Delivery managers and team members with regards to issues around health, safety, and well-being. 
  • Supporting the design and implementation of preventive/corrective actions where necessary. 
  • Liaising with the BT Networks Health & Safety team to ensure an aligned approach to risk assessment, compliance checks and follow-up actions.  
  • Identifying and ensuring completion of any engineer training requirements relating to Health & Safety aspects and feeding into Resource & Skilling team for inclusion in relevant Training Plan. 
  • Identifying any equipment requirements relating to Health & Safety aspects and feeding into Equipment & Tools team for resolution. 
  • Providing information to the Regional Manager to support improvements or changes in health, safety, and wellbeing practice across Field Engineering. 
  • Collecting and analysing evidence of (non-)compliance to feed into organisation-wide reporting, auditing, and continuous improvement processes.  

Skills required for the job 

  • Solution Focused: Ability to manage safety risks through appropriate interventions and governance of our safety agenda 
  • Communication: Ability to develop insight and reporting to be consumable by the operation using straightforward language to communicate how we are doing against our safety plans.  
  • Collaboration: Ability to work closely with the patch managers on all safety plans, providing the data required, tracking performance and metrics, aligning to key goals, and required outcomes. 
  • Stakeholder management: Ability to influence across multiple teams (e.g., Health and Safety) in Dynamic Infrastructure  
  • Negotiation: Required to influence outcomes that ensure the safety of our UK field operation.  
  • Leadership & Engagement: creating inspiring communications to engage people on the strategic path being taken and creating an environment whereby people feel they can speak out whilst also challenging to grow and improve each and every day. 


Experience you would be expected to have 

  • Experience of working or managing in an engineering environment. 
  • A good working knowledge of Health, Safety, and environmental controls in an engineering environment 
  • Technical skills held include Excel, PowerPoint, data interpretation & visualisation, metric & process knowledge, problem solving ability
