Function:  Engineering

Temple Point, Bristol, United Kingdom

Salary:  Competitive with great benefits

Our mission is to break down the barriers of today to release the potential of tomorrow. Join us today and release yours.

There are two things that we want to share with anyone considering joining us.

Firstly, we’ve got big ambitions for our colleagues and the future of the organisation. These include our vision that inclusion and accessibility drive every conversation we have and every decision we make. We want our workforce to fully represent the communities and customers we serve, because a diverse business is a better business. We value every colleague, their diversity and the contribution that they make. When we say you’re welcome at BT, we really mean it.

Secondly, the one thing the pandemic has taught us is that a lot of current and future colleagues, where and when possible, want to embrace hybrid working. Therefore, we are introducing smart working at BT. Smart working means having the flexibility to choose, as a team, how and where you work depending on your team’s deliverables and needs; when you are at your shared core location to connect with others and when not. It may not be for every role, and, as part of the recruitment process, you’ll have the chance to discuss smart working and how it might work for the job you are applying for.

About this role

Mobile is an incredibly competitive industry, and it’s not just the critical technology but the world of promise it creates for our customers. We live and work in a connected world where people want seamless service, great products and the best connectivity, and continually expect more and more from us, and rightly so. So we are recruiting a Programme Test Manager who will spearhead the E2E Integration strategy delivery for programmes or a portfolio of smaller projects, defining the optimal test approach for each workstream within the programme, considering business objectives and deliverables.

The Programme Test Manager will be the single point of contact, through the coordinated management of test resources, to assure the quality of the customer experience and meet business, operational and technical acceptance criteria. As the Programme Test Manager, you will facilitate the successful integration and acceptance of new systems, products, and services in alignment with the Mobile market plan, business strategy, and brand by maintaining an optimum balance of time, cost, and quality. You will advocate for E2E integration, engage other functions within Technology and across functions, communicate test principles, aims and processes, share successes and ensure technical and non-technical stakeholders understand the value-added.

You will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, exploring and supporting the delivery of new technologies while working alongside a friendly, energetic, experienced, and supportive team with the precise aim of delivering the best service to our customers.

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of programme testing and integration from initial evaluation to realisation into the operational network.
  • Set direction for the programme across the entire testing & integration life cycle, ensuring all key milestones are achieved in compliance with the Test Framework.
  • Create end-to-end test strategies for programmes and workstreams created by the Senior Delivery Manager, and communicate outwardly, explaining rationale and benefit, to achieve buy-in from the business.
  • Define and agree on the communication strategy, project/programme test, and risk mitigation strategy.
  • Communicate and agree on progress on key milestones and deliveries with external suppliers and internal senior stakeholders at each key stage of the delivery by defining the working relationship at the start and achieving agreement for the timely and cost-effective delivery of the E2E Integration programme.
  • Support and help troubleshoot any issues/decisions/escalations within the projects under the programme banner, proposing ideas and solutions to issues and working with the project Test Managers and Environment Managers to implement, whilst ensuring key stakeholders are updated and buy into the approach.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships within the directorate, Vendors, Heads of Services, PMO, IT and other departments.
  • Be accountable across the range of technologies, leading detailed investigations, defining the test approach, highlighting any significant risks and translating into business recommendations. These will then be communicated to external stakeholders, ensuring they understand and support the strategy.
  • Be the technical expert in the subject matter, providing technical guidance and sharing technical expertise/knowledge with test team members.
  • Engage, consult, and facilitate collaboration with SMEs across Technology and the business: be able to translate into meaningful language and benefit for a non-technical audience and be able to explain how that Technology can impact customer experience and front-line staff.
  • Ensure budget and resource requirements are identified and progressed as per programme demand. Work with governance forums and projects to ensure budgets are in place.
  • Track all programme interdependencies, providing risk analysis, prioritisation, trade off options and recommendations to stakeholders to ensure successful delivery to time, cost and quality.
  • Identify, support and drive improvements through the E2E Integration community. Be a champion of quality and best practices.
  • Carry out daily/weekly programme reporting with an emphasis on being clear, concise and focussed on business impact/risk to ensure reporting is meaningful to a non-technical audience that may sit outside of Technology.
  • Plan, engage and manage all test resources alongside the Senior Delivery Manager throughout the programme's lifecycle.
  • Engage in virtual line management as required, coach and develop the skills and competencies in others through on-the-job support, delegation, coaching, timely formal and informal feedback, training and development.
  • To understand the overall deliverables of each project and ensure inter-communication within the E2E Integration community.
