The Skills & Capability Specialist plays a crucial role in designing, developing, and managing skills & capability development products and interventions across BT Group, owning the end-to-end journey design from defining through to deployment and iteration of products or as part of larger deliverables.  

A strong focus on customer centricity is essential for this role, to ensure that all skills & capability development products address business challenges and drive sustainable value for BT Group.   

What you'll be doing

 

  • Supports the Senior Specialist, Skills & Capability in defining the learning interventions that build skills and capabilities across BT Group, aligned to business priorities, owning individual products as part of a wider portfolio. 
  • Works as part of a delivery team within a squad, supporting specific activities in the product lifecycle for skills & capability development interventions that drive and enhance colleague experiences across BT Group.
  • Act as a product owner for individual skills & capability development products or parts of a larger intervention or portfolio, managing a multifunctional delivery team which can include external suppliers.
  • Works closely with the P&CPs, the Strategic Workforce Planning team, and other key stakeholders across BT Group to identify customer needs and translating them into product requirements and user stories.
  • Leads on the defining, scoping, designing, development and deployment of skills & capability development products and interventions. 
  • Continuously gathers feedback from end-users and stakeholders to refine skills & capability development products that are value-add and customer-centric. 
  • Identifies and leverages qualitative and quantitative data and analytics to support the tracking of objectives, products outcomes and impact of learning interventions.
  • Collaborates with Communities of Expertise and unit P&C Partnering Function to create, prioritise, and maintain the product backlog.
  • Designs and develops products keeping a commercial focus, assessing cost and value drivers, developing cost-effective solutions; manages product delivery in budget and reviewing return on investment.
  • Leverages expertise in behavioural and capability development, alongside deep insights into current theory, best practices, and research, to design and deliver impactful learning products that drive performance and create meaningful shifts in capability.
     

Skills and Experience You’ll Need: 

  • Expertise in building skills & capability, both behavioural/soft skills and technical skills at all levels of an organisation, and influencing the levers across the colleague life cycle to build sustained performance and capability beyond learning.
  • Adept at leveraging external research, insights and trends to develop colleague centric, innovative learning interventions that are deeply connected to the business strategy and context.
  • Strategically defining capability gaps and translating them into actionable, relevant interventions that positively impact performance with clear, measurable ROI.
  • Sound experience with behavioral science and behavioral change management and translating that into practical interventions.
  • experience operating in Agile Squads, and collaborating in a matrix environment.
  • Commercially astute and able to speak the language of the Business and ability to use deep business knowledge to inform decision-making.
  • Able to build strong, credible relationships with key stakeholders and successful at influencing and gaining buy in.
  • Leverages internal data and analytics and external best practice and insights to support innovative product design and development of deliverables.
