The Scope
The Product Professional, Street plays a key role in supporting BT’s ambition to enhance UK streets through meaningful, connectivity-based services. As part of the BT Street team, you’ll help deliver on our vision to transform legacy payphones into a network of digitally connected smart city units, reducing loss-making assets while preserving the heritage of iconic red phone boxes.
This role ensures that both legacy and modern products—such as Street Hubs, mobile small cells, and ST6 payphones—are regularly reviewed, maintained, and remain commercially viable. You’ll work across BT and with external partners to support product improvements, operational delivery, and strategic initiatives that align with BT’s purpose to connect for good.
What you’ll be doing
Full Lifecycle Ownership of Street Products
- Lead the end-to-end management of street-based products—including Street Hubs, mobile small cells (worth £0.4m revenue), and ST6 payphones (worth £0.5m revenue)—ensuring they remain operational, compliant, and commercially viable throughout their lifecycle.
Strategic Planning and Roadmap Development
- Act as a key contributor to the Street strategy, developing product roadmaps that align with BT’s regulatory obligations and strategic goals, including initiatives like migrating Street Hubs from fibre to 5G to reduce costs and enhance connectivity.
Commercial Performance and Business Case Development
- Monitor product performance, usage, and financial metrics to identify opportunities for improvement or rationalisation. Develop business cases to assess cost-benefit and recommend approaches that support BT’s Medium-Term Plan (MTP) commercial goals.
Cross-Functional and External Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate across BT teams (EE, Marketing, Brand, Software Design, Service) and external partners (Global Media, Openreach, Councils, Suppliers) to ensure smooth delivery, in-life support, and strategic alignment—such as enabling 5G Small Cell rollouts in kiosks and hubs.
Operational Excellence and Asset Management
- Drive product improvement initiatives including unit refurbishment, graffiti removal, and re-paints. Manage BT’s 10% share of advertising campaigns across the estate, oversee key assets at One Braham and Adastral, and maintain accurate product documentation and systems.
Experience needed to be successful in the role
End-to-End Product Management Experience
- Demonstrated ability to manage products from concept to market and through in-life delivery, including building cases for change, developing business cases, selecting suppliers, managing contracts, and delivering customer and commercial benefits—critical for overseeing BT’s Street Hubs, ST6s, and mobile small cells.
Strong Commercial Acumen
- Proven understanding of how operational performance impacts overall P&L, with experience in maximising revenue and supporting strategic cost-saving initiatives.
Strategic Communication and Stakeholder Influence
- Skilled in communicating complex ideas and strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders, inspiring cross-functional teams and external partners to align with product strategy and business goals.
Collaborative Leadership in Matrix Environments
- Experienced in leading resources outside of direct teams, working across internal departments and with external organisations (e.g., Global Media, Openreach, Councils) to deliver product improvements, advertising campaigns, and infrastructure upgrades.
Customer-Centric and Solution-Focused Mindset
- Strong focus on customer experience, with a track record of identifying and implementing solutions to operational challenges—such as graffiti removal, unit refurbishment, and brand refreshes—to enhance product value and public perception.
